Birsa Munda’s movement transformed Adivasi resistance from a local revolt into a wider assertion of identity, land rights and self-governance. Discuss. ⚜️First, it asserted land rights. The movement challenged encroachment on Adivasi land and later contributed to recognition of customary systems such as Khuntkatti, culminating in the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act, 1908. ⚜️Second, it defended Adivasi identity. Birsa was revered as Dharti Aba, and his vision located identity in ancestry, community, land and culture rather than religion alone. ⚜️Third, it articulated self-rule through the idea of disum, reflecting community autonomy and resistance to external domination. ⚜️Fourth, it shaped later politics.
