On Sunday, 28 June, join TJC for We Keep Us Safe, a day of activities at Pearl's Hill Terrace where we build knowledge, skills and experience in keeping each other safe from state and societal violence in its different forms. We're looking for 5 storytellers to speak at "Hooked: Stories the Government Doesn't Want You to Hear" from 5-6 pm. The session will spotlight personal journeys of how punishment has derailed and disrupted lives, and, on the flipside, how peer and community support have helped them survive. You do not need to have public speaking experience. We are interested in your personal stories and can provide help to refine your story before the event. “Before taking your life, they will take everything else away,” Pannir wrote in a 2019 letter about his experiences on death row, after his criminal appeal was dismissed. Now, the state has set a date to take his life - 20 Feb 2025. ❗️Syed Suhail is scheduled to be executed this Thursday. ❗️ In 2021, Syed's sisters worked with us to create and collect the first batch of signatures for the petition to stop the executions. In 2022, one of them delivered the petition to Minister Shanmugam on World Day Against the Death Penalty, together with other family members of death row prisoners. They never heard back from him. When, one day, enough Singaporeans stand up against the death penalty, and the government is forced to abandon this barbaric practice, Syed and his family’s efforts would not have gone to vain, even though Syed will not be alive to celebrate that day with us.
