  • Kenya’s High Court has maintained interim measures in a legal dispute challenging aspects of the country’s gambling regulatory framework, involving the Prime Cabinet Secretary, the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Kenya. Justice Musyoka, who certified the matter as urgent, on 13 August allowed prayers 2 and 6 of an application filed on 11 August to remain in force on an interim basis, saying this was necessary to prevent the court’s 7 August orders from being rendered meaningless. The respondents have seven days to file their responses, with the court scheduled to rule on the application on 21 August 2026 through the Judiciary’s Case Tracking System.   • Thirteen people have been arrested and R10,853.10 seized in the first operations conducted by South Africa’s Illegal Gambling Task Team (IGTT) in Limpopo. The operations were carried out in Modimolle on 4 August 2026 and Lephalale on 6 August 2026 by the IGTT, which brings together the National Gambling Board (NGB), the Limpopo Gambling Board, Mpumalanga Economic Regulator, North West Gambling Board and the South African Police Service (SAPS). The action forms part of the National Enforcement Strategy adopted by the Law Enforcement Forum (LEF) to strengthen the fight against illegal gambling.   • Moruntshi Kemorwale, Chief Executive Officer of the Gambling Authority of Botswana, has revealed that an estimated P850 million is spent each year on illegal betting platforms outside Botswana’s regulatory framework.
