Dear Representatives of the ISRM Asian National Groups, I trust that you have all been well since our last correspondence in late February. I would like to announce the ISRM Early Career Forum Scholarship and other items related to upcoming ARMS14 in Fukuoka. 1. Call for applications for the Early Career Forum Scholarship at ARMS14: Deadline: 20 August 2026 2. 2026 ISRM Asian Council Meeting during ARMS14: 11:30–13:30, 25 November 2026 3. ISRM Congress 2027 Promotional Dinner right after ARMS14 closing ceremony: 18:00, 26 November 2026. 1. Call for applications for the scholarship for 11th Early Career Forum at ARMS14 - ISRM Educational Fund Committee (EFC, see attached ISRM By Law on this) established in 2014 has been sponsoring Early Career Forum (ECF) since its 1st ECF in 2017. - ISRM provides 7-8 scholarships to early career members (including students) below 38 from economically disadvantageous regions (Priorities). - EFC is currently chaired by Prof Fengshou Zhang, ISRM Vice President at large.   1) Eligibility - Early career members from Asia including students below the age of 38. - Priorities are given to applicants from economically disadvantageous regions. - Applicants must be authors of full papers accepted for ARMS14 - As a general rule, no more than one applicant from each country will be awarded a scholarship. Exceptions may be made only under special circumstances. - During ARMS13, 8 scholarships were awarded from 6 countries (Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia and Nepal)  2) Application documents - A 1-2 page CV - A one page statement of application - A one page recommendation letter from representatives of applicant's NG. Letter from other qualified person would be accepted if the applicants are from a region where ISRM NG is not established, - A copy of full paper accepted to ARMS14 3) Submission and Deadline - Email the application documents to Prof Fengshou Zhang (Chair of EFC, fengshou.zhang@tongji.edu.cn), with c.c. to Prof Ki-Bok Min (ISRM VP for Asia, kbmin@snu.ac.kr) by 10 Aug 2026   4) Participation Requirement - Selected ECF scholarship recipients will make a presentation at ECF to be held during ARMS14. Two senior members will also make presentations during ECF. 5) Financial Support - Full (or partial) support of flight tickets and accommodation will be provided by ISRM EFC. Total budget is 14,000 EURO jointly provided by Chinese NG and ISRM. My sincere thanks go to Chinese colleagues. - The ARMS14 Organizing Committee will also provide registration fee waivers for all scholarship recipients. I would also like to thank our Japanese colleagues for their kind support.   2.  2026 ISRM Asian Council Meeting during ARMS14 - 11:30-13:30, 25 Nov, 2026. Lunch boxes will be provided from 11:30 and the formal meeting will begin at 12:00. - Agenda will be distributed later. 3. ISRM Congress 2027 Promotional Dinner right after ARMS14 closing ceremony - 18:00 on 26 Nov 2026 (tentative) - ISRM Board members, ARMS14 organizing committee members, ISRM Asian NG representatives and other ISRM key persons are invited. - Details of the restaurant and venue will be provided later. Your spouses are also very welcomed. - We would also like to take this dinner as an opportunity to thank our Japanese colleagues for the organization of ARMS14. Dear Presidents of the ISRM National Groups, In 2019 the ISRM approved the ISRM Science and Technology Awards, which have the following two categories to be conferred on alternate years: - Science Achievement Award; - Technological Invention Award. In 2026 the Science Achievement Award will be conferred on ISRM individual members in recognition of one or more of the following contributions to the progress of the science of rock mechanics: - making an important advancement of knowledge; - proposing and confirming a new theory to explain certain phenomena. Dear Presidents of the ISRM National Groups, In 2020, the ISRM Board decided to institute the ISRM Young Rock Engineer Award, to acknowledge excellence in the field of rock engineering by ISRM members who are in early stages of their career. The ISRM Young Rock Engineer Award is conferred in recognition of one or more of the following achievements in rock engineering practice: • novelty of the nominee’s contribution to solve engineering problems and/or develop original design solutions; • pioneering in the use of materials and/or methods; • contribution to sustainable engineering practices; • contribution to and promotion of the engineering profession. Nominations for the award shall be by the nominee's National Group, or by some other person or organization acquainted with the nominee's work. Self-nominations are not accepted. The deadline for submission of nominations for the ISRM Young Rock Engineer Award 2026 is 23 May 2026. Dear Presidents of the ISRM National Groups, The Joint Technical Committees JTC1 (Natural Slopes and Landslides) and JTC3 (Education and Training) of the FedIGS (joining the ISSMGE, ISRM, IAEG and IGS), are organizing a joint workshop to be held in New Zealand from 27 April to 3 May 2026. The provisional title of the workshop is Landslide Risk and Geo-Education. A key highlight of the workshop will be the 4th Hutchinson Lecture. The Lecture has been established to award a scholar, aged 42 or less at the time of the event, who has significantly contributed through his/her research and other work to the understanding of slope stability and landslides phenomena. The lecture should address a topic aligned with JTC1’s research focus on natural slopes and landslides and a paper based on the lecture is expected to be published in a peer-reviewed thematic issue of an international journal, alongside selected contributions from the workshop. The Hutchinson Lecturer should have a disciplinary background in one or more fields within geosciences. Candidates will be nominated by the national groups of the FedIGS sister societies with final selection determined by a vote of JTC1 Committee members.   National societies are invited to submit nominations by 17 November 2025. The nomination package should include the following documents and be sent to the JTC1 Chair, Professor Gonghui Wang (wang.gonghui.3r@kyoto-u.ac.jp), at Kyoto University, with copy to this Secretariat (secretariat@isrm.net): 1.
