STOCKS IN SPOTLIGHT IN THE WEEK GONE BY: Positive Movers: Hitachi Energy India – Surged after Q1 profit more than doubled and revenue jumped 69%. LG Electronics India – Rallied on 27% profit growth and reaffirmed FY27 guidance. Solar Industries – Gained on robust earnings, a strong order book and upbeat growth guidance. Paytm – Hit a 52-week high after Bernstein raised its target price to ₹2,200. Praj Industries – Advanced after Q1 profit more than doubled year-on-year. Bharat Dynamics – Gained after Q1 profit surged more than sixfold and revenue rose 131%. Vodafone Idea – Advanced after its Q1 loss narrowed sharply and ARPU improved. Matrimony.com – Surged after Q1 profit jumped 127% and sales increased 13%. Bata India – Advanced as Q1 profit grew 23% on strong premium demand. Titan – Ended higher following robust Q1 earnings and positive brokerage commentary. Negative Movers: Bharat Forge – Slumped after reporting a ₹90-crore Q1 net loss. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles – Fell as Q1 profit plunged 80% amid margin concerns. Reliance Industries – Declined after MSCI reduced its index weight. Tata Steel – Weakened amid broad-based selling in metal stocks. JSW Steel – Slipped as geopolitical and commodity-related risks hurt sentiment. ICICI Bank – Ended lower amid profit booking in financial stocks. ITC – Declined as defensive stocks witnessed selling pressure. In the week gone by, notable gainers amongst Nifty 50 were: Bharat Electronics (+2.44%) Dr. Reddy's Laboratories (+2.39%) Titan (+2.33%) Bharti Airtel (+1.64%) Eternal (+1.11%) And the losers were: Max Healthcare (-5.74%) UltraTech Cement (-4.01%) TCS (-3.74%) Tata Motors PV (-3.60%) SBI Life (-3.26%) The Gyan Mantra: Stay selective and avoid aggressive buying until Nifty decisively reclaims 24,584. Rising crude oil prices, geopolitical tensions and persistent FII selling continue to create near-term uncertainty. Holding above 24,000 remains crucial, while quality stocks with strong earnings should remain the preferred investment choice.
The Week That Was 10th August to 14th August 2026 The week belonged firmly to the bears as the benchmark Nifty snapped its two-week winning streak, ending lower in four out of five trading sessions. Simply put: rising crude prices ➝ escalating US-Iran tensions ➝ persistent FII selling ➝ weakness in heavyweight stocks ➝ broad-based market pressure. Despite Friday's recovery from intraday lows, bearish sentiment continued to dominate Dalal Street. Weekly Scorecard Nifty (-0.83%, 24366) Sensex (-0.62%, 78009) Bank Nifty (-0.44%, 57491) It should be noted that downside risks are beginning to build. Nifty needs to reclaim 24,584 quickly to stabilize sentiment. A decisive break below the crucial 24,249 support level could expose the psychologically important 24,000 mark. Rising crude oil prices, geopolitical uncertainty, continued FII selling and weakness in heavyweight stocks such as Reliance Industries and Tata Motors remained the biggest concerns during the week. Now, here is how the Week Played Out: Day-by-Day Market Action: Monday: Nifty gained 13 points as investors assessed Q1 earnings. Tuesday: Nifty fell 112 points as crude prices and geopolitical risks intensified. Wednesday: Nifty declined 36 points, extending losses below 24,450. Thursday: Volatile trading ended largely flat near 24,400. Friday: Buying at lower levels helped Nifty recover sharply from early losses, although the index still ended 30 points lower. The Nifty 50 remained under pressure throughout the week as geopolitical tensions, rising crude prices and persistent FII selling outweighed the positive impact of corporate earnings. Strong Q1 earnings supported selective stock-specific buying. Mid-cap stocks remained resilient and outperformed the broader market. Domestic institutional buying continued to cushion the downside. Softer U.S. inflation data eased concerns about an immediate Federal Reserve rate hike. Our Call of the Week: Bears retain the near-term advantage. The encouraging sign is that Nifty continues to hold above the psychological 24,000 mark. However, the index must reclaim 24,584 to improve sentiment. A break below 24,249 could intensify selling pressure. Long Story Short: Geopolitical tensions and rising crude oil prices are currently driving market sentiment more than corporate earnings. Holding above 24,000 remains critical for maintaining market stability. Global Macro Pulse: Key developments remained in focus: Escalating U.S.-Iran tensions kept geopolitical risks elevated. Brent crude surged toward $87 per barrel, increasing inflation concerns. Persistent FII selling continued to weigh on investor sentiment. Softer U.S. inflation signals reduced fears of an immediate Fed rate hike.
