In Poland, the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party announced on August 6 that if it returns to power, it will deport Ukrainian men of conscription age (25-60) who are not legally employed, framing it as support for Ukraine's mobilization effort. The party is now preparing an actual bill. A poll taken days later found 67% of Poles support the idea. But PiS is currently the opposition, not the ruling party. Poland's government is led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk's coalition, which called the proposal "absurd" and "disgusting," and the next parliamentary election isn't until autumn 2027. 🇺🇸 "IT'S FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY": US Automated Cameras Have Exploded 280x Since 2023, Now Scanning 20 Billion Cars a Month The number of automated license plate reader cameras across the US, the large majority made by Flock Safety, has grown explosively in under three years. Tracking data shows roughly 450 such cameras mapped nationwide at the end of 2023. By the end of 2024, that number had grown roughly tenfold to around 4,500. By January 2026, it had climbed past 65,000, and by mid-2026 it had passed 116,000, with growth continuing month over month, now deployed in over 120,000 locations across 49 states. Flock Safety, the dominant vendor behind this expansion, works with over 2,000 law enforcement agencies and says its network performs more than 20 billion vehicle scans a month. The company was valued at $8.4 billion this year in a round led by Andreessen Horowitz. That same investor, Andreessen Horowitz, also backs Toka, an Israeli cyber-intelligence firm co-founded in 2018 by former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and former IDF cyber chief Yaron Rosen. According to a 2022 Haaretz investigation, Toka's technology allows government clients to locate internet-connected cameras within a given area, hack into them, monitor live feeds, and alter or erase both live and archived footage without leaving a trace. The firm, regulated by Israel's Defense Ministry, has worked almost exclusively with state, intelligence, and law enforcement clients. A more recent Haaretz investigation this year found Toka had also developed tools capable of infiltrating vehicle multimedia systems to track location and remotely activate microphones and dashboard cameras, a capability the company says it no longer sells as of its 2026 product roadmap. Separately, the Israeli firm Cognyte has been selling million-dollar mobile surveillance vans to American police departments. Flock's own buildout has drawn mounting scrutiny domestically. An Electronic Frontier Foundation investigation of 12 million Flock searches found law enforcement agencies running searches tied to protest activity, including demonstrations in New York, without warrants or judicial oversight. Explosion Rocks Ammunition Factory Near Rome A fire followed by a powerful explosion struck the Knds Ammo Italy plant (formerly Simmel Difesa) in Colleferro, outside Rome, on Thursday afternoon. The blast, felt for kilometers, hit the plant's powder-pressing department. The facility produces medium- and large-caliber ammunition for land and naval defense, as well as solid propellants for aerospace vehicles. Fire crews and carabinieri responded to the scene, though extreme risk conditions initially delayed firefighting operations.
