Some actual good news to share: LORS just got accepted for a lightning talk at the LSIC Spring Meeting. The talk is called “The Interface Gap in Lunar Surface Mobility: Characterizing Interoperability Barriers and an Open Framework Approach for Rover-Lander Integration.” For anyone who hasn’t been following along, LORS (Lunar Open-source Rover Standard) is an open standard we started developing with financial support from MoonDAO. The goal is dead simple: make it so rovers from different teams can actually talk to landers and infrastructure without everyone having to reinvent the wheel every time. Right now, that’s not the reality — and the LSIC talk is our chance to put that conversation front and center. Two concrete updates to go with the news: • We’ve started building the SysML v2 model for LORS. Version-controlled, machine-readable, and diffable — because if the standard itself can’t be reviewed and automated, it’s not really a standard. It’s built to be fully LORS-compliant — a real implementation to test the interfaces, not just a paper exercise. CAD generation, thermal compliance, the works. South Korea wants to build a moon base by 2045! South Korea is accelerating its space ambitions with a bold new roadmap that includes plans to build a lunar base by 2045, according to a report by The Korea Times on Thursday (July 17). The roadmap, presented by the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) during a hearing at the National Research Foundation of Korea in Daejeon, outlines a series of missions aimed at expanding the country's role in space exploration. KASA's long-term plan identifies five key focus areas: low Earth orbit operations, microgravity research, lunar exploration, and solar and space science initiatives. Though KASA was only established in 2024, it has already begun laying the groundwork for a sustainable presence on the moon.
