🍓 Differential Diagnosis of Strawberry Tongue: Strawberry tongue refers to a red, enlarged tongue with prominent papillae. It is seen in several pediatric conditions, including: 1️⃣ Scarlet Fever : Caused by Group A Streptococcus producing erythrogenic toxin. Often presents with pharyngitis, sandpaper rash, and Pastia lines. 2️⃣ Kawasaki Disease : A systemic vasculitis in children; diagnostic criteria include fever, mucous membrane changes (like strawberry tongue), conjunctivitis, and extremity changes. 3️⃣ Staphylococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome : Caused by Staphylococcus aureus toxin; characterized by high fever, hypotension, rash, desquamation, and mucous membrane involvement. 4️⃣ Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome : Similar to staphylococcal TSS, but caused by Group A Streptococcus; often associated with invasive soft tissue infection and systemic toxicity.
