In the first glance everyone thinks this is a story of a 21y/o girl named NINA with perfectionism who strives for the best But let's be honest that's literally the tip of the iceberg of the topic this movie talks about One of the main topic it covers is entering the world of adulthood You might think... Come one she's 21 not 13 to not be considered an adult at this rate But that's where your wrong my fella Cause even though she was 21, her mother still saw her as her sweet fragile little girl and she kept on being that for her the thing that puts the whole plot together is the actual story of the dance Nina wanted to take the role in The story of the two swan twins one is the white : Pure, virgin and fragile And the other is the black : Bold, fearless, lustful and heartthrobing The white swan wants to break free and only true love can break her spell so she actually falls in love with a prince but her twin sister seduces the prince Then she commits suicide And THAT ... will be the reason she finally breaks free Her first audition is quite good But just for the role of the white swan In order to get the role she should play both the white AND the black swan As her male teacher mentioned She's only good for one, not the other twin This made her want to go harder on herself inorder to get the role The next day she wears a lipstick then goes to the teachers office Which She didn't try hard enough to convince him He suddenly leans in and kisses her and stuff... then tells her to lose herself Or be bolder You might think the villain of the story is the teacher who's being too hard on her But nope ... I actually see his point on trying to make her prepared for the black swan (Even though it wasn't the most convenient way to approach the situation but still) That kiss though... As I told you Nina might be 21 but she's naive. When she realizes she got the role There's a scene when she sees the word "whore" on the mirror She might have thought of herself that way cause she thinks she only got the role cause the teacher is into her and the kiss was the proof Later... There comes a new student Named lily... More rebel, bold, not perfect but still mesmerizing So lily had many effects on Nina Some good some bad The good ones were, where she helps Nina break free of her mother, try new things and stepping out her comfort zone The bad one was when Nina started getting paranoid about lily trying to take her place Do you know who I think was the main villain of the film ? Yes...HER MOTHER! That bitch was so obsessed with her daughter and monitored everything her daughter did Which was the main reason Nina always had her guards up towards experiencing new things She was always kept closed That even after getting the role of the audition she suspected it was just caused by the kiss accident with her teacher The guilt was so high she felt like a whore ! Her mother even guilt tripped her to obedience by saying she sacrificed her youth and back in the day ballet role just to have Nina But in the end of movie (The white swans suicide scene) She looks her mother in the eyes and jumps [WHICH BASICALLY WAS PROVING HER MOTHER THAT IM THE ONE IN CONTROL AND THAT HER LITTLE PURE DAUGHTER IS DEAD] THIS SCENE WAS LITERALLY BRILLIANT CAUSE SHE DID IT WHILE WEARING THE WHITE SWAN CUSTOM WHICH WAS THE METAPHOR OF INNOCENCE!!! The whole reason she could finally play the black swan part was the fact that she started becoming a rebel Bolder and more confident She was TRANSFORMING to a newer version This explains the scratching part-when you go for things that are in conflict with you you body still tries to resist, it pushed, it'll try to get rid of it The itch was from growing wings... Black wings which literally shows the physical transformation of the black swan in the ending scenes she says to her teacher that she finally felt it ... Being perfect Even though she hurt herself so much in the process of striving perfection She thought she killed Lily but it was herself all along
