North Machangolhi MP Ibrahim Mohamed (Janaab) has said large foreign companies operating in the tourism sector should share a portion of the revenue they earn from selling Maldivian tourism services with the Maldivian people. He said issues that were neglected in the past are now being addressed. Janaab made the remarks following the government’s proposed amendment to the Goods and Services Tax Act, which would require offshore tour operators, travel agents and online tourism booking platforms to pay GST on tourism packages sold to tourists travelling to the Maldives.
