Look at this beautiful village picture. It shows a quiet place in the countryside. There are small houses with straw roofs. They sit between green hills and big fields. A small river flows slowly nearby. Farmers work in the fields, growing food like vegetables and grains. Some people take care of cows and other animals. Children play happily on the dirt road. Older people sit under trees and talk. Smoke comes from the kitchens because women are cooking fresh meals. The sun is setting, and everything looks golden and peaceful. Life here is simple and close to nature. People grow their own food and help each other. There is fresh air, birds singing, and no noise from cars or cities. This village teaches us that happiness can come from a slow and simple life. It is full of beauty, hard work, and peace. Many people dream of living like this, away from busy city life.

"The Adventure of the Speckled Band" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes classic, 1892) On a stormy night, a terrified young woman named Helen Stoner bursts into 221B Baker Street. Her twin Julia died two years earlier in mysterious circumstances—screaming "the speckled band!" in her final moments—while sleeping in the same room at their home. The stepfather, Dr. Grimesby Roylott, was a violent, eccentric doctor with a history of rage and a strange collection of exotic animals (including a cheetah and a baboon) roaming the grounds. He controlled the sisters’ inheritance and had recently moved Helen back into Julia’s old bedroom, right next to his own. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson travelled to the place. Holmes quickly notices several odd details: The bed in the room was clamped to the floor (it could not be moved). A dummy bell-rope hanged beside the bed, connected to a tiny ventilator that opened into the stepfather’s room instead of the outside. There were strange whistle sounds at night. That night, Holmes and Watson hid in Helen’s room. In the darkness, they heard a low whistle. Holmes struck at something with his cane, driving it back through the ventilator. A bloodcurdling scream echoed from the next room. They broke into Dr. Roylott’s chamber and found him dead—his head swollen and marked with a hideous yellow band with brownish speckles. A swamp adder (the “speckled band”), India’s deadliest snake, was coiled around his head. Roylott had trained the snake to crawl through the ventilator at night, down the bell-rope, and onto the bed to bite his victims. He planned to kill Helen the same way to keep the inheritance. Holmes’ swift action sent the snake back through the vent, where it bit its own master instead.

Explanation of the Image (Heavy Traffic) This image captures the chaos and reality of heavy traffic congestion in a modern city during peak rush hour. Here's a breakdown: Main Subject (Traffic Jam): The road is completely packed with vehicles — cars of different colours , big buses, delivery trucks, and scooters/motorcycles squeezed in between. This represents typical urban gridlock where movement is at snail pace. Atmosphere & Time: Set in the evening with a beautiful yet contrasting golden sunset. The red taillights create a dramatic glowing effect, symbolizing slow moving vehicles and rising frustration. Background Elements: Tall skyscrapers and commercial buildings show this is a major business district. Billboards, traffic signals, and road signs add realism to the urban environment. Human Element: You can see drivers looking stressed or impatient through car windows — a common scene in real-life traffic jams. Environmental Impact: Light haze and vehicle exhaust highlight pollution caused by idling engines, a big issue in cities with heavy traffic. Why this scene matters: Heavy traffic is a daily struggle in big cities worldwide (like Delhi, Mumbai, New York, Bangkok, etc.). It causes: *Wasted time and fuel *Increased air pollution *Stress and road rage *Economic losses

Mathilde returned the new necklace to Madame Forestier, who remarked coldly that she should have returned it earlier. Thus began ten years of terrible hardship. The Loisels dismissed their servant and moved to a cheaper apartment. Mathilde performed all the heavy housework herself—washing dishes, scrubbing floors, carrying water, and bargaining at markets for the cheapest food. Her once-delicate hands became rough and red. Her husband worked late into the night, copying documents for extra money. They lived frugally, paying back every franc plus heavy interest. Over time, Mathilde aged quickly. She became a strong but coarse woman of the poor working class, with untidy hair and a loud voice. One Sunday, while walking in the Champs-Élysées, Mathilde saw Madame Forestier pushing a child in a pram. Her old friend still looked young and elegant. Gathering courage, Mathilde approached her. “Good day, Jeanne,” she said. Madame Forestier did not recognize the worn-out woman before her. When Mathilde revealed her identity, her friend exclaimed in shock, “Oh, my poor Mathilde! How you have changed!” Mathilde smiled proudly and told the whole story—how she had lost the necklace, replaced it at great cost, and suffered for ten years to repay the debt. Madame Forestier listened in amazement, then took Mathilde’s hands. “Oh, my dear! The necklace I lent you was fake. It was made of glass and worth no more than five hundred francs at most!”

The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant (A famous story from English Literature ) Mathilde Loisel was a beautiful young woman born into a modest family of clerks. She always felt that fate had made a terrible mistake by placing her in such ordinary circumstances. She had no rich relatives, no dowry, and no bright prospects for a luxurious marriage. Eventually, she married Monsieur Loisel, a humble clerk working in the Ministry of Public Instruction. He was a kind and honest man, but his simple life could never satisfy Mathilde’s dreams of wealth and elegance. She suffered constantly from the shabbiness of her home. The faded walls, the old furniture, and the plain curtains tormented her. While other women of her class accepted their lives, Mathilde dreamed endlessly of grand salons decorated with elegant furniture, and priceless ornaments. She imagined delicious dinners served on shining silver plates, attended by servants in fancy uniforms. She longed to wear beautiful gowns and expensive jewels, to be admired and envied by everyone around her. But in reality, she had nothing—no fine clothes, no sparkling gems, only endless dissatisfaction. One evening, her husband returned home looking pleased. He held out an envelope with great excitement. “Here is an invitation for us,” he announced proudly. The card invited Monsieur and Madame Loisel to a grand ball at the Ministry palace. He expected his wife to be overjoyed, but Mathilde threw the invitation aside in irritation. “What good is this to me?” she asked bitterly. “I have nothing suitable to wear.” Her husband, trying to comfort her, offered the four hundred francs he had saved for a hunting gun. “Use this to buy a nice dress,” he said gently. Mathilde agreed, but even after purchasing an elegant gown, she remained unhappy. “I have no jewels,” she complained. “I will look poor and ridiculous among the rich ladies.” Monsieur Loisel suggested she borrow jewellery from her old school friend, Madame Forestier, who had married a wealthy man. The next day, Mathilde visited her friend’s beautiful home. Madame Forestier kindly opened her jewel box and invited Mathilde to choose anything she liked. Mathilde tried on several pieces—bracelets, necklaces, and a cross—but nothing seemed perfect until she discovered a superb diamond necklace in a black satin box. It sparkled brilliantly in the light. With trembling hands, she fastened it around her neck and gazed at her reflection in the mirror. She looked magnificent. “Could I borrow only this?” she asked eagerly. Her friend agreed without hesitation. On the night of the ball, Mathilde was a stunning success. She was the prettiest woman present—elegant, graceful, and full of joy. Men admired her openly, asking for dances and seeking introductions. She danced wildly, forgetting her modest life and feeling like a true princess. Her husband, however, waited patiently in a quiet room, dozing among other tired gentlemen until four in the morning. When they finally left, Mathilde wrapped herself in her plain everyday cloak, embarrassed by its poverty compared to the luxurious furs of other guests. They walked through the cold streets until they found a carriage. Upon reaching their small apartment, Mathilde stood before the mirror to admire herself one last time. Suddenly, she cried out in horror—the diamond necklace had disappeared! Panic struck them both. They searched the folds of her dress, her cloak, and every corner, but the necklace was gone. Monsieur Loisel suggested writing to Madame Forestier that the clasp had broken and it was being repaired. This bought them some time. They searched desperately for days, but the necklace was not found. Finally, they decided they must replace it. After visiting many jewellers , they located an identical diamond necklace priced at thirty-six thousand francs. Monsieur Loisel used his inheritance of eighteen thousand francs and borrowed the rest from friends, moneylenders, and usurers. He signed ruinous agreements that would burden them for years.

*"The Night Train at Deoli" by Ruskin Bond When I was in college, I often traveled by night train from Delhi to Dehradun. The train always stopped for ten minutes at a small station called *Deoli*. It was not a real town. It was just a lonely platform in the middle of a forest. The jungle was thick and dark around it. There were no lights except one oil lamp near the station office. No one ever got on or got off the train at Deoli. It was a forgotten place. One winter night, I was looking out of my window as the train stopped. That was when I saw her for the first time. A young girl was walking on the platform. She carried baskets in her hand. She was very poor. Her clothes were old and torn. Her hair was untidy. But her face was beautiful. She had large, dark, troubled eyes. She walked slowly up and down the platform. She did not shout or try to sell her baskets. She just looked at the windows of the train, as if she was looking for someone. Our eyes met. For a few seconds, we just looked at each other. I wanted to speak, but I did not know what to say. Then the guard blew his whistle and the train started moving. The girl stood still and watched the train go. Soon Deoli and the girl were lost in the darkness. After that night, I always waited for Deoli. I would stay awake, even if I was tired. As soon as the train stopped, I would run to the window. She was always there. We never spoke. We just looked at each other. Sometimes she smiled a little. I wanted to jump down from the train and talk to her. I wanted to ask her name. I wanted to buy all her baskets. But I was young and shy. I thought, "I will talk to her next time. I will get down next time." But "next time" never came. This went on for two years. Deoli became the most important part of my journey. The girl with the baskets became part of my dreams. I wondered about her life. Who was she? Why was she always alone at that lonely station? Did she wait for me, or was I just one of many faces on the train? Then I stopped taking that train. I finished college and started working. For many years, I did not go that way. But I never forgot the girl at Deoli. Last year, I had to go to Dehradun again. I took the same night train. My heart was beating fast as we came near Deoli. I was older now. I was not shy anymore. I decided, "Tonight I will get down. I will finally speak to her. I will find out who she is." The train stopped at Deoli. I looked out. The platform was empty. There was no girl. There were no baskets. Only the same old oil lamp and the same dark jungle. KI called the station guard. "Where is the girl who used to sell baskets here?" I asked. The guard looked at me strangely. "Which girl? No girl comes here now. A girl did come, many years ago. But she stopped coming. I don’t know where she went." The train moved again. I sat by the window for a long time. Deoli disappeared into the dark forest. I understood then that I had lost her forever. I had waited too long. The train of life does not stop for us. If we do not get down when we have the chance, the station stays empty. *Moral:* Some moments come only once. If you wait, they are gone.

This is a picture of a supermarket. A supermarket is a big shop where you can buy food and many other things for your home. You can see long aisles (like paths between shelves) full of food. There are fresh fruits and vegetables (apples, bananas, carrots). There are packed foods like snacks, cereals, and drinks. People are shopping with trolleys. They push the trolley and pick what they need. At the back, there are checkout counters where you pay for your things. Supermarkets are very convenient because you can buy almost everything you need in one place! It's a fun and colourful place to visit.

A beautiful and popular story from the Shiva Purana: The Birth of Lord Ganesha Once, Goddess Parvati wanted to take a bath and needed someone to guard the entrance so no one could disturb her. Since Lord Shiva was away and there were no attendants at that moment, Parvati created a beautiful boy from the turmeric paste (ubtan) she was using for her bath. She breathed life into the idol and named him Ganesha. She lovingly instructed the boy: “Stand at the door and do not allow anyone inside without my permission.” Ganesha obediently stood guard. After some time, Lord Shiva returned home. When he tried to enter, Ganesha stopped him and said, “My mother is bathing. I cannot let you go inside.” Shiva, not knowing who the boy was, became furious at being stopped at his own door. A fierce battle ensued. Ganesha, empowered by his mother’s shakti, fought bravely and defeated Shiva’s army of ganas (attendants). Even the greatest warriors could not overpower him. Seeing this, Lord Shiva became extremely angry. In his rage, he severed Ganesha’s head with his trident. When Parvati came out and saw her beloved son lying dead, she was devastated. In her grief and anger, she took the form of the fierce Goddess Kali and threatened to destroy the entire universe. Lord Shiva, realizing his mistake, immediately pacified Parvati and promised to revive their son. He told his attendants to bring the head of the first living being they found whose head was facing north. The ganas found a baby elephant whose head was facing north. They brought it to Shiva. Lord Shiva attached the elephant’s head to Ganesha’s body and brought him back to life with his divine power. He also blessed Ganesha, declaring him the Lord of Obstacles (Vighnaharta) and the first deity to be worshipped in any auspicious ceremony. From that day onwards, Ganesha became one of the most beloved deities — wise, kind, and remover of all obstacles.
