Wuse 2, Gudu, and Lokogoma were inundated, along with bridges between Gaduwa and Durumi and along the Ebeano–Gudu road. August 16. #landslide Costa Rican Red Cross rescue teams evacuated 20 people who were cut off by a major landslide in the Bajo Pacuare area of La Suiza de Turrialba. Source Source Source 🟣 Peru. August 16. #flood Heavy rain struck Lima on August 16, flooding streets and homes in the southern parts of the city. About 8 mm (0.3 inches) of rain fell within 24 hours, one of the highest rainfall totals recorded in Lima in recent history. Roads in central Geoje were flooded, along with schools and other facilities. On August 17, a landslide triggered by the torrential rain killed four people and injured three others. Some areas received more than 100 mm (4 inches) of rain in 24 hours, with localized estimates reaching as high as 300 mm (12 inches). August 17. #drought Water levels at Lake Powell, the second-largest reservoir in the United States, fell to a new record low. Source Source Source 🟣 Belgium. August 16–17. #wildfire A massive wildfire continued to burn through the High Fens (Hautes Fagnes) nature reserve in eastern Belgium, becoming the region’s largest wildfire in more than a century. The fire began on August 14 and has burned approximately 3,000 hectares (7,400 acres). Residents of Sourbrodt, Leykaul, and Küchelscheid were evacuated. Source Source Source
