Ukrainian interceptor drones are shooting down 87% of Russian Shaheds, while ground robots completed 16,000 missions in a month, according to the WSJ. The publication reports that technological advances helped Ukraine gain an advantage in several areas during the first half of the year. Medium-range strikes are disrupting Russian logistics and slowing the advance of Russian troops, while long-range attacks are creating problems deep behind Russian lines. The use of ground robots is also expanding. In June alone, they completed more than 16,000 missions, nearly twice as many as in March. The robots are used to deliver supplies, evacuate wounded soldiers, and support counterattacks. Ukraine is also focusing on electronic warfare-resistant FPV drones, automatic target recognition, and navigation using Starlink. According to the WSJ’s analysis, the effectiveness of Ukrainian interceptor drones against Shaheds increased from 81% in December to 87% in July. Russia is responding by developing its own technologies, including “mother drones” that relay FPV footage over tens of kilometers and faster jet-powered drones designed to evade Ukrainian interceptors.

🇮🇳 Half of India’s oil imports are now Russian, with Moscow’s share reaching a record level, according to Reuters. In July, India imported 2.47 million barrels of Russian oil per day, accounting for 50.83% of its total oil imports. This was 62.4% more than a year earlier, although 4.8% below the record high reached in June. At the beginning of the year, Indian refineries reduced purchases of Russian crude amid the threat of US tariffs. However, the war with Iran and supply disruptions in the Middle East prompted them to increase imports from Russia again. The share of Middle Eastern suppliers fell from 43% to around 30% between April and July. The figures show how deeply Russian oil has become integrated into India’s energy supply. India imports more than 90% of the oil it consumes, making an abrupt rejection of Russian crude difficult. Replacing such large volumes would be especially challenging amid ongoing supply disruptions in the Middle East. This also complicates US efforts to reduce Moscow’s oil revenues, as cutting Russian supplies to India would force New Delhi to find alternative sources for huge volumes of crude.
