The underlying connection between Tripurbhairavi and Tripursundari: We are both familiar with these two forms of the goddess but what’s the connection between these two mahavidyas apart from the bigger picture of them being an emanation of the adi parashakti. I wanted to make this post last year just after completing my written post on Sundari but I lacked firsthand experience of Devi Bhairavi, what I had was nothing but empty knowledge which was merely textual and experience based therefore not truly insightful. However not to get ahead of myself even now I think I merely know a speck. And the topic of tripurBhairavi is almost endless as she has not two or three but a total of 12 forms when she’s worshipped as a mahavidya.The first commonality between them is simply Bala tripursundari. Just like Vatuka bhairava is said to be a precursor to Kal bhairava, Bala tripursundari is the precursor to Tripurbhairavi, now this may come as something new but in the genuine old school Kaula sampraday when Tripursundari sadhna is to be done with a proper initiation, Tripurbhairavi is the first initiation a person gets into the entry of the inner chakra. Now to tell you more so into the similarities between Bala tripursundari and Tripurbhairavi is for you to realise how similar their mool mantra is, now obviously I can’t tell you their mool mantras but they’re just a click away if anyone wants to double check, The knot these two deities rule is the same as well i.e Bramhagranthi. (Bala tripursundari rules over swadisthan and Tripurbhairavi rules both the swadisthan and the muladhara). and another similarity is their extremely similar form and function in the entire grandeur of sri Vidya. And not to mention the similarity of the hriday beej as well. Just like the tradition suggests that vatuka bhairava is related to Bala tripursundari, similarly Kal bhairava is related to Tripurbhairavi mostly as a consort in chakreshwar sadhna.And why is there even a difference, why not kaulas directly go in to the worship of Bala tripursundari? The primary reason is that bala Tripursundari is primarily a deity pleased through dakshinachar.And only when she’s worshipped in her full glory (which is not possible these days as she holds the title of being one of the most esoteric deities of these times).From the Kanda the three nadis originate and joins in mooladhara, and when through the control of apāna vayu one gains conscious control of kundalini in his body the yogīn feels bliss, and that bliss is inherently a sign of tripurbhairavi/Tripurbhairavi herself and when the same three nadīs are joined in by agyachakra in harmony the bliss the sadhaka feels Is Tripursundari/a sign of tripursundari. This is one of the reasons why I referred to the deity as Sundari in my earlier post rather then directly as Devi Tripursundari. A lot of things I had to remove from this post as its simply about the connection between the two deities and not about each one of them.
