First, you should have contributed for at least 180 months (15 years) to enable SSNIT to determine your Average of Best 36 Months’ Salary. Next determine average of your Best 3 Years salaries. In simple terms, SSNIT look for the 36 months in which the salary used to pay your SSNIT contributions was highest. For example, let’s say your best 3 years were: Year 1: GH¢96,000 annual salary Year 2: GH¢108,000 annual salary Year 3: GH¢120,000 annual salary Your Average of Best 3 Years will be: (GH¢96,000 + GH¢108,000 + GH¢120,000) ÷ 3 =  GH¢108,000 per year That GH¢108,000 becomes the salary base for calculating your annual pension. Now, assuming you contributed for 25 years, your Pension Right is 48.75%. If you retire at age 60, your Age Reduction Factor is 1. Your estimated annual pension is GH¢108,000 × 48.75% × 1 = GH¢52,650 per year To know how much you will receive every month as pension, it is GH¢52,650 ÷ 12 = GH¢4,387.50 per month Simple koraa. 😊 This is why, as an employee, you should not only be interested in the amount that hits your bank account at the end of the month when you're young and fit. You should also know the salary your employer is declaring to SSNIT on your behalf. You may be earning GH¢15,000 a month, but if your employer is paying SSNIT contributions based on a much lower salary say GH¢6,000 , that can affect the pension you receive when you retire. So once in a while, check your SSNIT statement and contribution history.

The highest SSNIT pensioner earns GH¢213,991.47 per month. 😱 The lowest existing pensioner earns GH¢409.56 per month. 😒
