🤖Our Future Is Now🙀 This interview with Tristan Harris, tech scientist and ethicist from Silicon Valley, who during his time at Google, has repeatedly questioned the persuasive psychological mechanisms lying at the core of modern online platforms, is an eye-opening conversation which reveals why AI is fundamentally different from any other technology humanity has ever created. This video may be useful not only in terms of high-level discourse and arguments on AI ethics, tech policy, and existential risks for your CAE, CPE and IELTS exams, but it also exposes you to some overwhelming ideas regarding the future of tech and our lives. Watch the full interview here 🤌 After watching, tell us in the comments: Do you believe we are currently in control of AI’s trajectory, or is the technology already moving faster than we can regulate?
Hey, everyone!🪶 Today, I am delighted to share a profound insight on relationships 👫 from the legendary Russian novelist, Leo Tolstoy: "What counts in making a happy marriage is not so much how compatible you are, but how you deal with incompatibility". The article from The Economic Times beautifully expands on this, essentially arguing that true relational strength isn't about the absence of conflict or difference, but rather the presence of effective strategies to navigate those differences. It highlights that compatibility is often superficial, while the ability to understand, empathize, and adapt to each other's unique perspectives — even when they clash — is the real foundation for enduring happiness. It's a life lesson on developing emotional intelligence and communication skills to bridge divides, rather than seeking a perfect, conflict-free alignment. 👀Do you see eye to eye with Tolstoy or would you rather disagree? Why? Wait you in the comments! 🤗💜

🇺🇸 Are you ready for some "bold" American English? 🥊 Why "Think Big and Kick Ass: In Business and in Life" by Donald Trump and Bill Zanker is a must-read for C1/C2 students: 🎯 Idiomatic Mastery: Throughout the chapters, you will encounter high-stakes business jargon and colloquialisms used to dominate conversations and seal deals. 🎯 The Art of Persuasion: For those looking to improve their professional negotiation skills, the book provides a look at how superlative adjectives and assertive sentence structures are used to project authority. 🎯 Cultural Nuance: Understanding the "American Dream" ethos - the unapologetic pursuit of success and the "take no prisoners" attitude - is essential for truly grasping the cultural context behind Western business communication. 💪 Your Linguistic Challenge: As you read, focus on how the authors use short, punchy sentences to create impact. Observe how they frame failures as "lessons". 📚 Read book summary here #reading #motivation #speaking
🪓Breaking Bad Habits😈 When we talk about habits, we often focus on healthy routines, such as "drinking more water" or "waking up early." But habits aren't always productive; sometimes, they are destructive cycles that define our identity. To explore the darker side of habit formation, we are looking at one of the most iconic tracks of Linkin Park: "Breaking the Habit". The idiom "Breaking the Habit" describes the act of stopping a ritualized behavior. The song perfectly illustrates the Limbic Friction we feel when trying to stop a "fossilized" action. While often associated with drug addiction, Mike Shinoda originally wrote it about a friend’s addiction and later explained it also reflects breaking free from toxic, long-term personal struggles and emotional pain. You can watch Mike Shinoda explain the story behind the song in this video. Synonyms for "Breaking the Habit": 🔸Quitting the addiction 🔸Ending the self-destructive cycle 🔸Breaking free from internal demons 🔸Stopping the toxic pattern 🔸Overcoming personal trauma
🤚Stop 'Studying' English. Start 'Living' It 🇬🇧 If you have reached the C1 level, you have probably noticed something frustrating: motivation is a liar. It shows up when you watch an inspiring TED talk, but vanishes on a rainy Tuesday when you are tired after work. The secret to moving from 'Advanced' to 'Near-Native' isn't a secret grammar rule or a magic list of idioms. It’s Architectural. In today’s discussion at Perfect English Coversation Club, we’re applying the science of Atomic Habits specifically to the plateau of Advanced English. We’ll talk about how to reduce 'friction' in your daily immersion, why 'Identity-Based Habits' are the only way to kill fossilized mistakes, and how to build a routine that works even when your willpower is at zero. If you are ready to stop 'learning' and start 'operating' in English, let’s dive in. 🛎 Last-minute call to reserve your spot: @AngyPerf
🚗Who is Driving Your English? 🧠: Internal vs. External Locus of Control One of the concepts we are going to discuss at the next Perfect English Converstaion Club is the locus of control, which may be internal or external. 👈Internal (The Architect): People with an internal locus believe that they are the primary drivers of their success. If they fail an exam or struggle with a presentation, they attribute it to their own effort, strategy, or lack of preparation. 👉External (The Passenger): People with an external locus believe that life "happens to them." Success or failure is blamed on luck, fate, the difficulty of the task, or the "bad" teacher. 🪄Why this matters for YOU: At the C1-C2 level, your progress is no longer linear. You don't have a teacher holding your hand through every grammar rule. You are now the master of your own education.

‼️ Change of the date 📅 🌟💜 Hiya, Perfect English Conversation Club is back! 👋 🗓 We are meeting offline this Wednesday, April 1, at 19:30-20:30 to discuss the Power of Healthy Habits and Routines. 🎙 The plan is to debate different psychological approaches to building habits and find that secret tool to unblock the discipline. For some it may be shifting the locus of control, for others, it may reside in reducing limbic friction, or finally hacking the environment to automate their routines. 📝 Topic-related materials - articles, videos and vocabulary will be provided to you prior to the meeting. 📇 Text me @AngyPerf for details if you would like to join 🤗
The neurobiology of fluency: why your habits are failing your English 🧠⚙️ At the Advanced level, the "plateau" is rarely a lack of vocabulary - it is a lack of systems. You know what to study, but the neurobiological cost of starting (limbic friction) often keeps you stuck in passive consumption. If you want to move from "learning a language" to "operating in a language," you need to understand how your brain outsources behavior to save energy. In this episode of the Huberman Lab Podcast, Stanford neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman explains why the "start" of a task is the hardest part. For a C1 student, this is the resistance or limbic friction you feel before opening a difficult C2-level article or starting a complex writing task. You will learn how to "bracket" these tasks to make them automatic. 📺 Watch podcast here 🖋️ Advanced Vocabulary: • Task Bracketing: The neural process of marking the beginning and end of a specific sequence of actions. • Limbic Friction: The psychological and physiological resistance one feels when trying to overcome a state of laziness or anxiety. • Neuroplasticity: The brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections.
🤸♀🚆"Jump on the bandwagon" means to join a growing movement, trend, or cause only after it has become popular, successful, or fashionable. It often implies acting out of opportunism rather than genuine conviction, usually to share in the benefits or success. 📉 Meaning: Following the crowd, supporting a likely winner, or adopting a trendy behavior. 📰 Usage: Frequently used in political or business contexts ("everyone jumped on the bandwagon of the new, popular diet"). 🖍 Connotation: It is generally disapproving, suggesting a lack of original thought or opportunism. 📜 Origin: The phrase originated in American politics in the mid-19th century, referring to politicians joining a parade wagon carrying a circus band to gain popularity. Examples: "When the new social media app became popular, many businesses jumped on the bandwagon to create profiles". "After the team started winning, new fans jumped on the bandwagon".
