His 6 year old daughter had a dream where she saw Mary assumed into heaven. The next morning at breakfast, she casually told her father, “I saw Mary go up into heaven.” There were no dramatic details, no angels, and no extraordinary visions. Just one simple and clear image of Mary going up into heaven. What makes this remarkable is the timing. It happened the day after he had privately prayed for confirmation about the Assumption while studying the Marian dogmas (about 2 months ago). The Church of Lefebvre (aka the SSPX) are truly the most delusional and weirdest schismatics I’ve ever come across. Typically, schismatic groups that break away from the Catholic Church at least acknowledge that they are no longer in communion with Rome. However, the SSPX continue claiming they are still in communion and deceive people into believing the same, despite Rome’s crystal-clear statements about their excommunication. They’re like the psychologically unwell ex-boyfriend. The girl broke up with him because he was unfaithful and constantly attacked her character, yet he keeps deluding himself into believing the breakup is invalid and that they’re still in a relationship, all while continuing to attack her.

Even if the Lefebvrians were right about their interpretation of canon law (they aren’t), they’d still be wrong. The Pope is above canon law, so their excommunication would still be valid and their sacraments (matrimony & penance) would still be invalid. It’s a lose-lose situation for the Lefebvrians. ““The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.” (Luke 10:16)

Rome has spoken. The matter is finished. I won’t be posting about the SSPX for a long time, nor will I waste any more of my time arguing with Lefebvrians. Rome has already settled the matter for us. I’ve heard this argument a lot…that Our Lady of Fatima isn’t a good case for Catholicism because by that logic, a Coptic Orthodox could just point to Our Lady of Zeitoun as proof of their church. It sounds reasonable at first, but it doesn’t hold up. First, when Our Lady appeared at Zeitoun over a Coptic church, she didn’t say a single word. There was no doctrinal message, nothing that distinguishes Orthodoxy or demonstrates it as the one true Church with the fullness of the faith. Second, the Catholic Church teaches that God can work miracles outside her visible boundaries (see Unitatis Redintegratio 3). So even if something supernatural happened there, that alone doesn’t prove that communion is the one true Church. Third, (and this is where the difference really hits) at Fatima, Our Lady actually spoke. She identified herself as the Lady of the Rosary and called the world to pray the rosary daily, a devotion that is distinctly Catholic, originated within the Catholic Church and promulgated by the Pope. She also tied global consequences to the Pope, teaching that God would punish the world if the Pope did not consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart. That’s the key difference, one is a silent apparition open to interpretation, the other delivers a clear message rooted in specifically Catholic doctrine and authority.
