Series: O Seeker of Good, Come Forth (4) The Prophet ﷺ said: “Perhaps a fasting person receives nothing from his fast except hunger and thirst, and perhaps a person who stands in the night prayer receives nothing from his standing except sleeplessness.” Sheikh Ibn Baaz -rahimahullah- said: “The underlying reason is that seeking closeness to Allah by abandoning permissible matters is not complete or perfected except after seeking closeness to Him by abandoning forbidden matters. Thus, the one who commits what is haram and then seeks closeness to Allah by abandoning permissible matters is like the one who abandons the obligatory duties and seeks closeness through voluntary acts.” [Source: Sharh Wadhai’f Ramadan, Ibn Baaz, pg. 71]

Series: O Seeker of Good, Come Forth (3) Sheikh Saalih Al-Fawzan -hafidhahullah- said: It is required for the Muslim to take Sahoor however it may be possible for him even if it is a small amount, according to his ability, in order to attain the reward and to aid himself upon the worship. Thus, he should not leave Suhoor if he is able to have it, because it assists him upon obeying Allah, and also in order to act upon the statement of Allah ﷻ, “And eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night),” [2:187]. And the Prophet ﷺ said: “Eat Sahoor, for surely there is a blessing in Sahoor”. [Source: Al-Muntaqa min Fatawa Ash-Sheikh Saalih Al-Fawzaan, 459/2]

Series: O Seeker of Good, Come Forth (2) Sheikh Ibn Baaz -rahimahullah- said: Reaching the month of Ramadan and fasting it is a tremendous blessing. This is proven by the hadith of the three men, two of whom were martyred, while the third lived after them and died later in his bed. It was then seen in a dream that he had surpassed them [in rank]. So, the Prophet ﷺ said [in explanation of this]: “Did he not pray such-and-such prayers, after them, and witness Ramadan and fast during it? For indeed, by the One in whose hand is my soul, what is between them [of difference in rank] is greater than what is between the heaven and the earth”. Series: O Seeker of Good, Come Forth (1) Sheikh Saalih Al-Fawzaan -hafidhahullah- said: There is no harm in greeting and congratulating [one another] upon the start of the month of Ramadan, because the Prophet ﷺ used to give his companions glad tidings of its coming and encourage them to strive in it with righteous actions. And Allah ﷻ said: “Say: "In the Bounty of Allah, and in His Mercy; -therein let them rejoice." That is better than what (the wealth) they amass.” [10:58]. Thus, congratulating [one another] for this month and rejoicing at its arrival indicate a desire for Khair (goodness), and the Salaf (pious predecessors) used to give glad tidings to each other of the coming of the month of Ramadan, following the example of the Prophet ﷺ.
