India is Now Trachoma Free Country The World Health Organisation (WHO) has felicitated the Indian government for eliminating a serious bacterial infection, trachoma. India is the fourth country in Southeast Asia, after Nepal, Myanmar, and Pakistan to achieve the feat. The Union government had declared the country free from infectious trachoma and active trachoma in children. The findings of the National Trachoma Prevalence Surveys and Trachoma Rapid Assessment Surveys conducted from 2014 to 2017 showed that the overall prevalence of active trachoma was 0.7 percent.

#updatepsm The Indian government has recently doubled the monthly nutritional support under the Ni-Kshay Poshan Yojana for tuberculosis (TB) patients, increasing it from ₹500 to ₹1,000 per month. This support will be provided throughout the course of the treatment. The decision is part of India’s ongoing efforts to eliminate TB by 2025. Additionally, underweight patients (with a BMI less than 18.5) will receive energy-dense nutritional supplements to further enhance their recovery. The initiative also extends to the household contacts of TB patients, who will receive community-based nutritional and social support.
