Known for her intelligence, strong will, and political insight, she played an active role in governance alongside her husband, Emperor Menelik II. She strongly opposed colonial interference in Ethiopia. Her leadership became most visible during the Battle of Adwa, where Ethiopian forces defeated the Italian army.
