SUNDAY, 9 AUGUST : Squats of Catalonia: Autonomous Spaces and the Struggle Against Gentrification This Sunday, photographer and researcher Nikolai Obglodin will present a photo exhibition exploring the Catalan squatting movement, based on four years of documentation and research. The term okupas (as squatters are known in Spain) is often associated with negative stereotypes. Yet many occupied spaces have become vibrant social and cultural hubs—places of mutual aid, self-organization, and neighborhood solidarity, where local communities come together to resist gentrification and defend their right to the city.
