Since Tele was acting up yesterday, I went with friends to the spider-man movie at Gast Mall. I personally liked the washing machine scene. Addis Ababa is so pretty at night. I wish Addis Ababa had a (normal) night life. We walked for an a hour.

What did you with your life when Tele is acting up? I usually - eat food - annoy my mom (now she’s playing a game ignoring me) - annoy my dad (until he side eyes me) - annoy friends but they are all busy (very bad friends tsk tsk) - play soduku - play dress ups - post on telegram about how Tele is shittu - eat again - do planks but feel horrible because time stops

────୨ৎ──── Career advice from someone who’s been working online since 2019: Choose your clients the way you’d choose a partner. I’m so serious 😭 When you’re looking for a partner, you don’t just go, “Well, they have money, so whatever.” You assess them. Their personality. How they communicate. How they handle boundaries. Whether they’re controlling. Whether you actually enjoy being around them. Do the SAME thing with clients. Money matters, obviously. We’re not working for vibes and exposure. But money should never be the only reason you take a client. Because, my darling, you’ll make that money and then spend it on therapy recovering from the person who paid you. And PLEASE protect yourself when it comes to payments. Don’t do 100% at the end. Depending on the project, take money upfront and use installments/milestones. Have boundaries around revisions, deliverables, and timelines. But most importantly: READ THE VIBES. READ THE ROOM OF THE VIBES. 🚩 If someone is already controlling before the project starts? 🚩 Doesn’t respect your boundaries? 🚩 Keeps changing what they want? 🚩Makes you feel like they have all the power (or owns you) because they’re paying you? That power imbalance can turn into manipulation. 🚩 Shits on your work, but still wants to book you??? I learned this the hard way when I was 21. I took a client thinking, “Eh, it’s just a person. It’s just work.” Girl. Boy. Woman. Man. Cats. For THREE MONTHS, I had a weekly crying session over this client. 😭 I was over-delivering, doing way more than I was supposed to, making version after version after version, and constantly dealing with manipulation around the work. NEVER EVER AGAIN. Now I’m selective. I know it's a privilege to be able to do that and I'm grateful. I usually work with women, and I LOVE working with women. They’re my ideal clients. Men, we like too 😭 but I’m definitely more selective. At this point, I don’t just see someone as a “potential client.” I see them as a potential working partner. Because if we’re going to work together for weeks or months, I need to know: Do I actually want to be in a professional relationship with this person? The money needs to make sense. But the person paying you needs to make sense too. #careeradvice 🧚‍♀️ @shegocodes
