Wishing everyone a very blessed Vesak day!! ❤️🙏😊 May everyone here be well and happy 😇 Sadhu ~~

  • [Week 13] Coping With Overwhelming Stress Is stress the problem… or our relationship with it? First arrow = Assignment deadlines, exams, life pressures 😵‍💫 Second arrow = Stress tornado 🔄 Stop getting hit twice. 🎯🎯 Pause and notice why stress sometimes feels bigger inside, and what’s really happening beneath the surface. SMUDC is blessed and grateful to invite Sayalay Sujata, a former banker turned Buddhist nun who received her monastic training in Myanmar. She works closely with youths and aspires to journey with all who wish to lead a more mindful and compassionate life. Join us for a real discussion and simple tools to explore the stress tornado from the inside out. 📅 8 Apr 2026 (Wed) 🕖 7:30pm – 9:30pm 📍 SOE/SCIS2 CR 3-3 No sign-ups required, all are welcome! Come as you are. 🙂

  • [Week 12] Can You Ever Repay Your Parents’ Kindness? We’re taught to be grateful to our parents—but what does that actually mean? And is it even possible to truly repay them? With Qing Ming—a time of remembering and honouring our ancestors—around the corner, this session explores the Buddhist perspective on filial piety through 《父母恩重難報經》 (The Sutra on the Difficulty of Repaying Parents’ Kindness), a text that boldly suggests that no matter what we do, we can never fully repay our parents’ kindness. If that’s true… then what should we do? Join us for an honest and reflective session on gratitude, family, and what filial piety looks like today. 📅 1 Apr 2026 (Wed) 🕖 7:30pm – 9:30pm 📍 SOE/SCIS2 CR 3-3 No sign-ups required, all are welcome! Come as you are. 🙂

  • [Week 11] More than Aesthetics: Mala Bead Bracelet Workshop We’ve all seen them before—draped over a monk’s robes or wrapped around a minimalist’s wrist as a fashion statement. But is there more to these beads than just "the look"? If you’ve ever wondered why there are exactly 108 beads, or how to use them in practice, then this workshop is for you. Beyond the aesthetic, these beads are actually "mind-binders"—ancient, high-functioning tools designed to anchor our focus when the world (or a hectic semester) feels a bit too chaotic. Join us for a hands-on session where we’ll dive into the meaning behind the Mala while learning the meditative craft of stringing them ourselves. Come hang out, take a creative break from the books, and walk away with your own personalized Mala—a portable "inner reset" button to help you find your center, even in the middle of a busy campus. 📅 25 Mar 2026 (Wed) 🕖 7:30pm – 9:30pm 📍 SOE/SCIS2 CR 3-3 No sign-ups required, all are welcome! Come as you are. 🙂

  • [Week 10] Beyond the Hustle: Redefining Wealth Are you feeling caught in the endless loop of "doing more"? In a university culture that often equates success with the "hustle," it’s easy to feel like we’re constantly running a race with no finish line. But what if we redefined what it means to be truly wealthy? This Wednesday, join our friends from Dharma Drum Mountain as we explore the concept of contentment. We’ll be moving beyond the noise of productivity to find a sense of "inner wealth" that doesn’t depend on our to-do lists. Expect a restorative session of mindful movement, guided meditation to ground the body and breath, and an open space to discuss how we can stay content amidst the SMU bustle. 🧘‍♂️✨ 📅 18 Mar 2026 (Wed) 🕖 7:30pm – 9:30pm 📍 SOE/SCIS2 CR 3-3 No sign-ups required, all are welcome! Come as you are. 🙂

  • [Week 9] The Four Immeasurables We live in a world obsessed with measurement—GPA, number of internships, salary, number of social groups, and productivity. But what if the secret to a truly "rich" life lies in the Immeasurable? In this session, we’re moving…

  • [Week 9] The Four Immeasurables We live in a world obsessed with measurement—GPA, number of internships, salary, number of social groups, and productivity. But what if the secret to a truly "rich" life lies in the Immeasurable? In this session, we’re moving past the "sending good vibes" clichés to explore the Brahmavihāras towards a heart that cannot be broken, a mind that doesn't judge, and a vibe that is, quite literally, immeasurable. WARNING: Side effects may include a sudden loss of ego, and a heart that is too big for your CV. A graduate of NTU’s Renaissance Engineering Programme, Danry’s journey with the Dhamma has taken him from local temples to the halls of UC Berkeley, where he studied Buddhist Philosophy. He holds a Diploma in Buddhism and has represented Singapore at international Buddhist forums. He enjoys translating ancient wisdom into practical life hacks, embodying how Buddhist wisdom isn't just for the shrine—it’s for the streets. 📆 11 Mar 2026 (Wed) 🕖 7:30 – 9:30pm 📍 SOE/SCIS2 CR 4-1

  • [Recess Week: Temple Tour] Monasteries and temples offer a peaceful place for us to engage in Buddhism—the serenity inspires us to partake in the practices that we might otherwise neglect in our everyday lives. 😌 This coming recess week, SMUDC is blessed to announce a temple tour of Mangala Vihara, or the Shrine of Blessings, a temple dedicated to providing Buddhist education for the public with programs available for all ages. Besides a physical tour of the place introducing us to the history and symbolism of its architecture, there will be activities such as incense offerings and sutta recitations, before the tour concludes with a Q&A session with the temple's resident monk. Whether you want to learn more or are simply exploring Buddhism, we'd love to have you join us! All are welcome 🙏😇 "The sight of ascetics, and timely discussion of the teaching: this is the highest blessing." ~ Mangala Sutta 📆 Friday, 6 March 2026 🕖 5PM - 7PM 🏯 30 Jln Eunos, Singapore 419495 Sign up HERE *Limited slots available*

  • [Week 5] Beginner Zen Art Workshop With Valentine's Day approaching, come join us for a beginner Zen art workshop, centered on the theme of mettā (loving-kindness)! Beyond exploring the benefits of Zen drawing, the session will create a space for us to slow down, pause, and practise mettā—towards both ourselves and others. 💞 The session will be facilitated by Bright Youth youth leader, Liang Cheng, who enjoys hands-on activities such as handicrafts and drawing, and has previously conducted Zen art workshops for Bright Youth members. Set up by Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, Bright Youth is a Buddhist youth community with a mission to inspire wisdom, compassion, and mindfulness by engaging and empowering youths aged 16 to 35 through Dharma-centric programmes—from Dharma sharing sessions and elderly home visits, to badminton sessions and clay art workshops. 🤾‍♂️ 📆 11 Feb 2026 (Wed) 🕖 7:30 – 9:30pm 📍 SOE/SCIS2 CR 3-3 No sign-ups required! We hope to see you there :D

  • [Week 4] Three Traditions? No Confusion Why do some monks wear robes in orange, grey, yellow, or red? Why does Buddhism look and feel so different across countries and cultures? Do these traditions teach the same core ideas and how can we begin exploring them? Buddhism is commonly understood through three major traditions: Theravāda, Mahāyāna, and Vajrayāna. While all originated in India, each developed distinct perspectives, practices, and cultural expressions as they spread across Asia. Join us this session as we unpack their similarities and differences and reflect on what they share in their essence. No prior knowledge needed! Anyone curious about Buddhism, as a religion or as new ways of exploring the world are welcome :) 📆 4 Feb 2026 (Wed) 🕖 7:30 – 9:30pm 📍 SOE/SCIS2 CR 3-3 No sign-ups required! We hope to see you there :D

  • [Week 3] The Five Precepts: A Practice of Personal Growth Buddhists are encouraged to live by the 5 Precepts—a set of voluntary training guidelines that many people often misunderstand as restrictions. This sharing instead explores them as practices that support our welfare and happiness. Rather than rules imposed from outside, the precepts are choices that help reduce inner conflict and protect the mind from remorse and agitation. With a calm and clear mind, qualities like kindness, contentment, honesty, and clarity naturally grow. Through practical reflections, we will explore living the Five Precepts as a path of personal growth. 📅28 Jan 2026 (Wed) 🕙7:30 - 9:30pm 📍SOE/SCIS2 CR 3-3 No sign-ups required! We hope to see you there :D
