The bar chart illustrates the sales of five types of items in a US department store across four different seasons in 2011. Overall, women’s clothing recorded the highest sales in every season, reaching a peak autumn. By contrast, men’s clothing generally had lower sales, while sports equipment, cosmetics and jewellery experienced some fluctuations throughout the year. Women’s clothing was the best-selling category over the period. Sales started at $40,000 in winter and increased to $60,000 in spring, before doubling to $80,000 in summer. The figure then peaked at approximately $110,000 in autumn. Jewellery, meanwhile, recorded the second-highest sales in autumn, at around $50,000, despite having relatively low figures in winter, spring and summer, at approximately $20,000, $18,000 and $27,000 respectively. Cosmetics sales also increased overall, rising from around $28,000 in winter to approximately $46,000 in autumn, although there were some fluctuations during the period. The remaining categories recorded comparatively lower sales. Men’s clothing stood at approximately $28,000 in winter before falling to $20,000 in spring. The figure then doubled to $40,000 in summer, but declined again to $30,000 in autumn. Similarly, sports equipment increased from $30,000 in winter to $40,000 in spring, before falling to $20,000 in summer and recovering to $40,000 in autumn.
