  • A Viking on an old Scandinavian Airlines poster 🇳🇴 🇸🇪🇩🇰 Not without a horned helmet, but as we know, an image of a Viking wearing a horned helmet was discovered on the Oseberg tapestry, dating to the 9th century — it's the only one in existence and currently has no archaeological confirmation. But perhaps such finds are still waiting to be discovered. Some researchers suggest that such a helmet may have had ritual significance. #Art@thetruenortherner #History@thetruenortherner

This is the most faithful film adaptation of The Odyssey. Even though it had a much smaller budget than Nolan’s, the passion and respect for the source material shows. Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwdoA0_t2vI Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boDSpqQ1zr8

“Zeus’ law “referred to in the new Nolan film refers to Xenia. It was a ritualised system of obligations for both hosts and guests. It was not uniquely Greek but existed in many Indo-European cultures. It was enforced by a widespread belief that the gods, whether that be Jupiter or Odin etc, sometimes disguise themselves as mortals and test the hospitality of wealthy and powerful people - rewarding the hospitable and punishing the others. It was not an obligation to be peaceful, to welcome enemies in your midst, an excuse to ignore local laws or a means to get free stuff from people. The suitors in The Odyssey abuse hospitality and so they are rightly killed. In the Viking version of the custom, you had to provide basic hospitality to the guest while they were in your home, but once they had left you could follow them and kill them without violating the custom which only prevented you from killing them while they were inside your home. I made a video explaining how the custom works

Artistic reconstruction of a man from the Abashevo culture. This was a redo of a past work. There were some artistic liberties taken on his headband and neck ring. The headband was inspired by a Russian anthropological bust of this same skull. While the neck ring was based on some research I found about torc like artifacts from Abashevo. Unfortunately Ido not have phenotype data on Abashevo so I choose pigmentation that was seen in early Corded Ware groups.

  • Fair-haired Aristocracy of Ancient Greece At the end of the video, it's stated that modern Greeks have a lower proportion of light hair due to interbreeding with their neighbors, including Slavs. Naturally, interbreeding with pure Slavs would have increased the proportion of light hair. As for the Southern Slavs, their higher percentage of dark hair is not due to their Slavic ancestry, but to their local Balkan origins. ⛓ Video: learnwithretold. #History@thetruenortherner #Biology@thetruenortherner #Hellenic@thetruenortherner #Video@thetruenortherner

14 people, including my wife and children celebrated the Midsummer blot to Thunder with the Hearth of Devon last night. It was the 7th summer blot to Thor held by HOD.

  • Happy Summer Solstice! Today is the longest day of the year — the symbolic point of solar apogee, marked by the Slavs as Kupala, the Balts as Ligo, and the Germanics as Midsummer. I wish you to fully enjoy the coming days of this summer and be prepared for what follows. #Holiday@thetruenortherner

🏴 Earlier this year, Scotland hosted its annual Viking Festival, the culmination of the Yule festivities. It was a truly majestic spectacle. Naturally, the Viking images at the festival are not historical reenactments. 📼 Video source: Ian G. Black. #Heritage@thetruenortherner #Germanic@thetruenortherner

Artistic Reconstruction of an Andronovo man from Kazakhstan. Clothing patterns were inspired by Andronovo pottery patterns. I have done an artistic reconstruction referencing this skull before but wanted to improve accuracy and realism. Source of skull reference is from this paper: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/361084568_Solodovnikov_KN_A_complex_study_of_anthropological_materials_of_the_Maitan_burial_ground_of_the_Bronze_Age_Alakul_Culture_in_Central_Kazakhstan
