This sort of meme I think is also why there are so many troons in art. Creative people are portrayed as avant-garde with unusually coloured hair, so people with little to no self image think that by modifying their body like "creative people" do, they will finally fit in. To an extent, they do fit in, but only because they find others who also have no self image, and assume that because they push away anyone else that they have finally found their people.
