    📉 CAG Flags 98% Shortfall in India's Green India Mission (2015-2025) A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report tabled in Parliament reveals severe failures in India's flagship afforestation program across 16 states due to poor planning, weak coordination, and underfunding. The Key Shortfalls 🔹Forest Cover: Achieved 0.034M hectares against a 1.4M target (97.57% shortfall). 🔹Forest Quality: Improved 0.113M hectares against a 1.4M target (91.87% shortfall). 🔹Budget Crunch: Received only ₹1,149.14 crore (47.88% of its intended budgetary allocation). Major Audit Findings 🔹Zero Change: GIS analysis showed 70% of sampled sites had no noticeable ecological changes, exposing inflated tracking data. 🔹Wasted Tech: Carbon-measuring flux towers worth ₹3.50 crore were left completely idle; only 2 states assessed carbon sequestration. 🔹Poor Execution: The scheme operated in isolation from other green projects (CAMPA, MGNREGS) and selected low-vulnerability lands instead of fragile areas. 🔹Weak Oversight: 8 states failed to maintain annual accounts, and 14 states hid mandatory transparency web links
