Hello everyone!! First of all I would like to thank to this group as it helped me a lot to prepare for my interview questions. Now, talking about embassy experience, I would like to share the views outside embassy during the Visa Interview. VI Experience ( Outside ): Everyone were standing with umbrella or raincoats as it was drizzling 🌧 in Mumbai. It was not a heavy rain but still you must carry a umbrella with you to avoid getting wet. Everyone was in serious mood 🧐, including me. VI Experience: First of all they announce the for the slot time and tell us to take the documents out. During the first checking phase, they only tell you to take the passport and they scan the barcode at the back. Later you are let in inside and you will be checked after passing through the metal detector. The file will also be checked. There will be a waiting area after you get out of the checking room/hall/area. They will tell you to sit in the specific row according to the slot you booked, but it doesn’t make any difference to allocate the counters ( so don’t worry). When they tell the whole row to go in, there will a line inside and you will be told to take out the documents and there will be 5 counters, that is from 36 to 40, only to check the documents. The documents which they will tell to make ready will be your Passport (which has the sticker applied during biometrics), I-20 and SEVIS Confirmation. After getting verified you will be told by the security guard to stand in the line of the interview. This queue will also be long but it will hardly take 5 mins to reach your turn. And there will be the guard at the start of the queue who will tell you to go to the specific counter according to the availability. Just to get an idea I am trying to represent it via emojis. Hope it helps. 1️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣ 4️⃣ 5️⃣ 6️⃣7️⃣8️⃣9️⃣0️⃣ 🪑 🪑 🪑 🪑 🪑 🪑 🪑 🪑 🪑 🪑 1 to 5 are the counters and 6 to 0 are the verification counters. There will be two chairs in front of each counter at a distance and one person will be at the counter for the interview. At the back of the chair, there will be the queue in which you will be standing after the documents verification. My Interview Experience: The guard told me to go to counter 34 and I immediately thought that I will be rejected. But when I sat on the second chair, the chairs of the counter 33 got empty and the guard told me to go there on the first chair of counter 33 and I was relaxed. VAC: 06th July, 2022 (Mumbai) VI: 11th July, 2022 In time: 9:40 AM Out time: 10:30 AM Appointment Time: 10:50 AM Counter: 33 ( by luck 🍀) Consulate: Mumbai VO: Bald American ( around 35-40 ) Officer: Good Morning Me: Good Morning, Officer Officer: How many universities did you apply? Me: I applied to 5 universities. Officer: How many admits? Me: I got 4 admits. Officer: When did you graduate? Me: I misheard and told I completed my masters in computer engineering. Officer: I asked when did you completed? ( in polite tone) Me: In May 2022 Officer: What was your score? Me: I scored 9.2 on the scale of 10. Officer: Have you taken any loan? Me: No officer. Officer ( shocked ): Then, how will you fund your education? Me: Apart from my families income of XX lakhs, we have liquid cash source of XX lakhs in our saving account and on the top of it we have assets worth XX crore. Officer: Ohh, good. Good Luck. He didn’t told me your Visa has been approved but he kept the passport in a tray and passed my documents to me, with a white slip which indicates about the passport delivery after the Visa stamping and all. Duration: 1min Counter# 29 She approved almost everyone. One girl got approved before me for her second master's in geology or something, and she was asked a little bit more questions about the course and how it is helpful to her. Me: Good morning, officer. How are you doing? VO: Pass me your documents Passed Me: how are you doing, officer? (I thought I was not audible at first, so I repeated this) VO: I am fine. So Ohio State University? Me: Yes, officer. VO: (She was trying to scan my passport, but I was not getting recognized. Multiple attempts) Where did you complete your undergraduate? Me: I did my bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from GITAM University. VO: Where is that located? Me: Rushikonda, Visakhapatnam. VO: Where is that? Me: In Andhra Pradesh, officer. VO: Oh, I got it. VO: After failing to scan my passport told me to go to counter 19 and get a new label. I went to counter 19 and checked my passport; she just entered my university name in her system and returned it to me without changing the barcode label. Meanwhile, she was interviewing one more girl going to Boston University, and she was asked only cgpa and work exp and got approved. Me: Hello, officer again. VO: How much time it took at that counter? Me: Hardly a minute or maybe 30 seconds. VO: Oh, really! VO: (She scanned now, and it recognized immediately) Oh! It got scanned. Why didn't it work last time? She might think I am crazy for sending you. You told her right I scanned many times, but it did not work!? Me: Yes, officer, I informed her that you have scanned multiple times, yet it did not work. (laughing) VO: So, you are going for the same program? Me: Yes VO: When did you graduate? Me: In 2021. VO: I see you were doing research. (She was going through my DS-160) Me: Yes, I was conducting research with my undergrad professor, and it has been accepted by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers journal. VO: Is it a paid research? Me: No, officer, it was actually a continuation of my bachelor's. VO: Is it published? Me: No, officer, it has been accepted and will be published in the coming months. VO: What is your GPA? Me: It is 9.29 out of 10. VO: That is a good score. Me: Thank you. VO: What do you know about Ohio state? Me: Ohio State University is a top-ranked public university (interrupted). VO: No, No, what do you know about the state Ohio? Me: (took 3 to 4 seconds gap to come up with something but was unable to) I do not know much about the state, but I will get to know once I get there. VO: Yes, there is a lot to see....( said something, but it was inaudible). VO: Okay, place your right hand four fingers on the scanner. Me: ( Placed and even beeped, but it was not captured, it seems, and she asked for two more times. For the third time, it worked) VO: I am approving your visa. Please collect it in your city in 5 days. Me: Thank you, officer. Have a great day (literally shouted). VO: (laughing) you too, you too. Tips: Chennai is marked as the most rejections consulate now, and I will not deny it, but in the same way, I will not agree with it either. On my day, I saw everyone walking out with green slips. The only rejection I saw was when I was in the main interview lobby, a student going to Franklin University. If your university is good ranked or in the top 100s or 150s, you do not have to worry at all. For folks with low-rank universities, I would not suggest the Chennai consulate. On July 1st, there were only four counters open, and the infamous American Bald guy was present and has given approvals and rejects too. Prepare well for the standard questions; if you are changing your major, please have a solid reason to present.
