#ZCnews : Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics Unit in Bulawayo have arrested two men after intercepting a bus at Hwange Bus Terminus and allegedly recovering 10 kilogrammes of dagga concealed inside washing powder boxes. According to a statement issued by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the arrests were made on 15 August 2026. The suspects have been identified as Never Shoko (41) and Blessing Ndlovu (38). Police said the officers intercepted the bus during an operation and conducted searches that led to the discovery of the suspected dagga. The substance had allegedly been packaged and concealed inside washing powder boxes in an attempt to disguise its contents. The recovery adds to ongoing police efforts to combat the illegal trafficking and distribution of narcotics in Zimbabwe. The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to face charges relating to the unlawful possession of dagga. #ZCStreets : Zimbabweans are sounding the alarm over the growing presence of three-wheeled “okadas” and tuk-tuks on the country’s roads, with growing concerns that the transport alternative could turn already-congested streets into a nightmare of noise, reckless driving and traffic chaos. The debate has been reignited by a social media post from Tawona Shadaya, who warned that Zimbabwe’s existing road problems could become “10 times worse” if the small three-wheelers are allowed to flood the streets. “Whatever problems we have on the roads just know zvinotoita 10x worse,” Shadaya wrote, predicting more noise, chaos and jams. The concerns are not entirely new. In January, the Zimbabwe Republic Police warned of an increase in unsafe motorcycle riding, citing reports of unregistered motorcycles, riders without valid licences or helmets, dangerous overtaking, speeding, riding against traffic and weaving between moving vehicles. A June 2026 report by NewsDay described a growing “tuk-tuk jungle” after three-wheeled scooters began appearing in significant numbers on Norton roads, with questions also being raised about whether some operators were properly licensed to carry passengers. Harare City Council has previously taken an even harder line, proposing that three-wheeled taxis should not operate as public transport in the capital. The council’s Draft Master Plan 2025–2045 cited concerns over the proliferation of the vehicles and proposed wider reforms to bring order to the city’s chaotic public transport sector. For many Zimbabweans, the fear is simple: if the roads are already struggling with congestion, potholes, kombis and mushikashika, what happens when thousands of additional small public transport vehicles enter the mix?
