🏆 In celebration of Spain's second World Cup I couldn't help but reminisce about their first one, or rather, the accommodation we've enjoyed during that championship. We were staying at a refurbished attic of a mid-XIXth century residential building at the historical center of Saint-Petersburg. The TV set was a minuscule device with a screen so small that the players were no more than colourful moving dots. Add to that an uneven antenna signal for more excitement! Therefore I remember that championship more by audial commentary than by pictures. That proverbial "Iniesta, Iniesta... Go-o-o-o-ol!"🔥 And oh, wasn't it beautiful🥹 Glad they've managed to craft a team worthy of such an achievement once more💪

It's not often I invent a new technique but here with this one I've been lowkey entertaining ideas about its implementation ever since 2012 when I first saw an example of inverted watercolour in action. It's been a downright enchanting experience since it included one of my fav features: the ethereal magical glow coming out from the dark (that proverbial lux ex tenebris, yup) delivering a sense of some grand cosmic revelation to everything depicted🌌✨ Painting an inverted image requires thinking in reverse — a wonderful brain gymnastics exercise, in fact: keeping your shadows intact while painting your lights with the darkest colours instead. Weird much! The dream took a shape of reachable with the discovery of Cofe's real watercolour pack for Procreate: an exciting assortment of digital media and textured backdrops providing a very realistic experience. The trick was to combine all that splendour with the correct layer mode which I believed had to be Linear Dodge — and while it works indeed, turns out that a better, more defined and glowy quality can be achieved via Colour Dodge. This one below has been a literal midnight epiphany experiment, and in the broad daylight I keep on thinking that bringing in an inverted trad lineart for crispier shapes and accents might create quite an exciting union. #diary
