Update: The aerial search is being carried out using the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) TB2 drone and a Maldivian Dash-8 aircraft. The missing persons have been identified as Maldives Police Sergeant Ali Nafiu, MNDF Staff Sergeant Ibrahim Ahmed, and Captain Mohammed Hamdhoon of the supply vessel ‘Friend 4’, which capsized late last night. A distress call was issued at 23:30 when the vessel began taking on water. Eight men were on board at the time; seven were rescued. The captain and two rescuers remained on the vessel, operating pumps in an effort to remove water, when the vessel suddenly overturned.
