Once landed on the airfield, he refueled his bomber on the ground, took off again, and then bombed and destroyed the same airfield. and then returned safely to Libya. Later, he was captured during Operation Crusader because when he landed at the Derna airfield, it was already under British control. And before he could embark, the airfield was attacked by German ground-attack aircraft, and he and his flight mechanic seized the opportunity and, despite British small arms fire, managed to board their Ju 52 aircraft, start the engines, and take off.
