  • Belle Gunness, born Brynhild Paulsdatter Størseth in 1859 in Norway, immigrated to the United States in 1881. Standing at 1.83 meters tall and weighing over 90 kilograms, she was known for her imposing stature. She initially worked as a domestic servant and later in a butcher's shop in Chicago. In 1884, she married Mads Ditlev Anton Sørensen. The couple owned a candy store that mysteriously burned down, leading to an insurance payout. Additionally, their home had previously burned down under suspicious circumstances. Two infants in their care also died from inflammation of the large intestine, a condition that could result from poisoning; both were insured, and Belle collected on their policies. Sørensen himself died in 1900 from a cerebral hemorrhage on the one day when his two life insurance policies overlapped, allowing Belle to collect a substantial sum. Using the insurance money, Belle purchased a pig farm in La Porte, Indiana. She married Peter Gunness in 1902. Tragically, Peter's infant daughter died while alone with Belle, and Peter himself suffered a fatal head injury eight months into their marriage. Belle claimed a meat grinder had fallen on him from a high shelf, but suspicions of foul play arose. Nevertheless, she collected $3,000 from his life insurance. Following Peter's death, Belle began placing marriage ads in Chicago newspapers, luring suitors to her farm. Many of these men arrived with their life savings and were never seen again. In 1908, her farmhouse burned down, and in the ruins, authorities discovered the bodies of her three children and a headless woman believed to be Belle. However, doubts about the woman's identity persisted due to discrepancies in size and the missing head. Subsequent investigations uncovered the remains of at least eleven additional people buried on her property, revealing Belle's gruesome pattern of deceit and murder. Belle Gunness is suspected of killing at least fourteen individuals, though some estimates suggest the number could be as high as forty, making her one of America's most prolific female serial killers. Her ultimate fate remains a mystery, as the true identity of the headless woman found in the fire was never conclusively determined.

  • In 1994, residents of Oakville, Washington reported seeing gelatinous blobs fall from the sky in a torrential downpour. The blobs were about the size of a grain of rice and covered an area of 20 square miles. The event became known as the Oakville Blobs and remains an unsolved mystery
