Recently #Venezuela was struck by two major earthquakes on 24 June 2026, measuring magnitude of 7.2 and 7.5. The earthquakes caused extensive damage and a major humanitarian emergency; by early August, authorities reported more than 6,100 deaths and tens of thousands of people affected. Report suggest the 7.4 magnitude #Colombia earthquake yesterday is part of the same broader period of intense seismic activity in the region, although it was a separate earthquake.

The disaster has resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries, while rescue teams continue searching for survivors and assessing the full extent of the damage. Reports suggest about 20 towns impacted by the tremors.

The Ministry of Mines announced record-breaking achievements for the sector. During the fiscal year, more than USD 5.7 billion was generated from mineral export trade. Through mining companies and traditional (artisanal) gold producers, 44 tonnes of gold were produced, generating USD 5.65 billion in revenue. Significant achievements were also recorded in the mining sector through the issuance of investment licenses and the production of import-substituting mineral products.

The Ministry of Water and Energy conducted a validation workshop on the inception report for the National Groundwater Strategy project. The project is expected to provide technical, legal, institutional, and digital strategies to govern the country's most valuable resources. The project is implemented by DH Consult.
