“We are being systematically conditioned to become hopeless because hopeless humans do not fight death. They welcome it.” It’s a devastating thought and sadly, it’s not inaccurate. The madness, the injustice, the censorship, the continued assaults on our liberties and rights, the violence, the corruption, the complete disregard for decency, common sense, morality and our basic humanity… it takes its toll. Day after day, crisis after crisis, outrage after outrage, we are exposed to things that would once have been unthinkable, until eventually the unthinkable becomes normal. And perhaps the greatest danger is not simply that we become accustomed to the madness, but that we become exhausted by it. Exhausted enough to stop caring, stop believing, stop resisting, stop hoping that anything can ever change. Because hopeless people are far easier to control than people who still believe in something better. This is why I think it is so important to understand where our true power lies. We were never meant to carry the weight of changing the entire world on our shoulders. Most of what happens around us is beyond our individual control, and constantly focusing on what we cannot change is precisely what leaves us feeling powerless. But we are not powerless. We have control over our minds, our choices, our habits, our bodies, our homes, our relationships, our values, our integrity, our courage and the way we choose to live. That is where the battle must be fought. Instead of allowing an increasingly insane world to make us insane, we must become more grounded. Instead of allowing ugliness to make us bitter, we must create beauty. Instead of allowing lies to corrupt our perception, we must seek truth. Instead of allowing fear to dictate our lives, we must choose courage. Instead of surrendering to hopelessness, we must protect our hope fiercely. Perhaps we cannot change the world individually, but we can change ourselves. And if enough of us reclaim our minds, our lives, our humanity and our sovereignty, refusing to become what this world seems determined to turn us into… then guess what?
