доля реакций к просмотрам- 12 авг.The Declining Value of Education: A Painful Reality There was a time when education was considered a path to excellence, knowledge, and a better future. Today, however, the declining interest in quality education has become a matter of deep concern. I still remember my own experience in 2020, when I appeared for the Kashmir University Entrance Test in Mathematics. Among nearly 2,000 applicants, I secured 11th position with 35.50 marks. At that time, competition was intense, and every mark mattered. Students worked hard, competed with one another, and valued the opportunity to pursue higher education. But the situation today is deeply disappointing. Only 87 students have applied for KUET in Mathematics, while 187 seats are available. What is even more painful is that around 95% of the applicants have scored below 10 marks out of 60—a score that, in some cases, could almost be reached through mere hit-and-trial. The question is not simply about marks or admissions. The real question is: Where are we heading? Why has the desire to learn, compete, and excel declined so drastically? Education should not merely be about obtaining a degree; it should be about developing knowledge, reasoning, curiosity, and the ability to think. This is not a celebration of my own achievement, nor is it a criticism of today's students. It is a genuine concern for the future of education. If quality education continues to lose its value and serious academic effort becomes increasingly rare, we must pause and ask ourselves what has gone wrong. Once, students competed for seats. Today, seats are waiting for students. And perhaps the most painful line to write is: RIP Mathematics — not because Mathematics has become difficult, but because our willingness to learn it seems to be dying.2,28%
