For the August 15–September 14 pricing cycle, EPRA has retained Super Petrol at KSh214.03 per litre and kerosene at KSh191.38, while diesel has dropped by KSh5 to KSh217.86 per litre in Nairobi. The government says the KSh938 million intervention prevented petrol and kerosene prices from rising further. • 𝗧𝗪𝗢-𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗕𝗘 𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗗 𝗞𝗖𝗦𝗘 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗘 A two-year investigation into a forged KCSE certificate has finally caught up with a 54-year-old man, who was arrested yesterday in Changamwe, Mombasa County. Awange Oscar Akoth was nabbed by detectives following investigations into the alleged forgery and use of a fraudulent KCSE certificate in connection with his employment at the Kenya Railways Corporation. The case came to light after Kenya Railways undertook an authentication exercise of academic and professional certificates presented by its employees. During the exercise, Akoth’s KCSE certificate, purportedly issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), was flagged for further scrutiny. Verification by KNEC subsequently confirmed that certificate number 624785, purportedly issued in 1993, had been forged. Detectives established that grades in three subjects had allegedly been altered from D (Plain) to C (Plain), while the mean grade had also been tampered with, changing it from D+ (Plus) to C (Plain). Following the investigations, the case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for directions. Upon reviewing the evidence, the ODPP directed that Akoth be charged with Uttering a False Document, contrary to Section 353 of the Penal Code, and Fraudulent Acquisition of Public Property, contrary to Section 45(1)(a) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act (ACECA). With the suspect having remained at large, detectives trailed him to Mombasa. Their efforts paid off when they finally caught up with and arrested him in Changamwe. Akoth is currently undergoing processing pending his arraignment before the Milimani Law Courts. #FichuaKwaDCI. Call 0800 722 203 (Toll-free) or WhatsApp at 0709 570 000 to report anonymously. • 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗡 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗔𝗞-𝟰𝟳 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗙𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗟𝗬 𝗠𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗞𝗢𝗦 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗧 An AK-47 stolen from a police officer during a daring armed attack in Mavoko has been recovered, nine months later and in the hands of a gangster who was shot dead in a fierce gun battle with detectives in Machakos County. The incident unfolded in the Mashokani area of Matungulu Sub-County, along the Koma–Kenol Highway, after detectives, acting on actionable intelligence, cornered a gang terrorising the area. The suspects were cruising in a Toyota Harrier when detectives flagged them down. Instead of surrendering, the gang opened fire, turning the highway into a scene of gunfire. Detectives returned fire, triggering a fierce shootout in which one suspect, armed with an AK-47, was fatally wounded. His accomplice, armed with a pistol, bolted from the scene and managed to escape. Detectives have since launched a hot pursuit to trail him down. Recovered from the fallen suspect was an AK-47 rifle, loaded with 11 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition. Preliminary investigation established that the rifle is the same firearm stolen from a police officer during a violent robbery in Mavoko in November 2025. During that attack, three armed men accosted the officer while he was guarding a residence in Athi River. They shot him on the chest and both legs before escaping with his AK-47 rifle, loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, and his mobile phone. A search of the suspects’ Toyota Harrier yielded eight mobile phones, four balaclavas, crowbars and torches. Crime Scene Investigation detectives processed the scene, while the body of the deceased suspect was moved to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital mortuary pending autopsy. As the escaped suspect remains on the run, detectives are leaving no stone unturned in the hunt to bring him to justice and unravel the gang’s wider criminal network. #FichuaKwaDCI. • 𝗠𝟭𝟲 𝗥𝗜𝗙𝗟𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗞𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗠𝗨𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗡 𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗟𝗢 An M16 rifle suspected to have been used in a deadly trail of four murders across Isiolo and neighbouring Meru County has been recovered in an intelligence-led multi-agency operation in Isiolo. The firearm, loaded with five rounds of 5.56×45mm ammunition, was recovered at Kakili area in Burat Location by a joint team of police officers from Isiolo County, National Police Reservists (NPRs) and National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs). Acting on actionable intelligence, the team recovered the M16 rifle, believed to be linked to notorious bandit Aloise Lochuchu alias “Akoo,” who was recently charged with robbery with violence. The recovery has opened a can of worms, with detectives now probing the firearm’s suspected links to four separate murder cases. The cases include: January 26, 2025: Murder at Maili Tatu in Meru County; July 20, 2025: Murder of a businesswoman within Isiolo town CBD; December 24, 2025: Murder at Sakama Bar in Isiolo town, and February 18, 2026: Murder of a deputy principal at Leparua, Isiolo North Sub-County. The recovery is a breakthrough, giving detectives a crucial piece of the puzzle as they work to establish the firearm’s role in the four killings and determine whether it may have been used in other crimes. The rifle has been secured at the Isiolo Police Station armoury and will be forwarded to the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic examination. The recovery once again underscores the power of actionable intelligence and community cooperation in tackling crime and making our communities safe. #FichuaKwaDCI.
