- 13 авг.✉️ President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a message of congratulations to Great Patriotic War veteran Yevgeny Znamensky, whose battle path stretched from the Battle of Moscow to the storming of Berlin, on his 101st birthday on August 13. 💬 The message reads, in part: A man of remarkable resilience, a front-line soldier, courageous and strong in spirit, you followed a glorious combat path, took part in the Battle of Stalingrad, the liberation of Europe from Nazism and met the victorious spring in Berlin. Following the Great Patriotic War, you devoted many years to honest service for the good of the Motherland. Thank you for your feats of arms and achievements in labour, for your deep sense of responsibility for the fate of the Fatherland, and for your contribution to the patriotic education of younger generations of Russian citizens. I wish you sound health and all the very best. *** 🥇 Yevgeny Znamensky was born in 1925. He was drafted into the Red Army in January 1943. He first took part in the defence of Moscow and, after completing basic military training, served as a submachine gunner and artillery scout. He fought in the Battle of Stalingrad and took part in the storming of the Reichstag, as well as operations to liberate Ukraine, Belarus, Poland and Germany. ✍️ On May 2, 1945, he left his now-legendary inscription on the wall of the defeated Reichstag: “Znamensky. Serpukhov!” During the war, Yevgeny Znamensky crossed the Don, Vistula, Oder and Spree rivers, survived a wound and two severe concussions. His decorations include two Medals “For Courage”, the Order of the Patriotic War and medals for the liberation of European cities. #Victory8112,50%
Jerusalem in Palestine, the city where the central events of the Gospel took place, became the earthly prototype of the Heavenly City, the “New Jerusalem”. This is stated directly by the Apostle John the Theologian in Revelation and is also mentioned as a theological metaphor by the Apostle Paul, who speaks of the “Jerusalem above”. Russian Orthodox culture sought to embody real symbols of the Holy City on its native northern soil, borrowing them in both toponymic and, at times, architectural form. Throughout Russia, one could find not only painted icons, but also architectural and spatial icons. One example is the famous Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery of Patriarch Nikon, built by him on the Istra River in the 17th century. Originally, the topography, place names and church buildings reproduced the principal Christian holy sites of Palestine and formed a landscape extending 10 kilometres from south to north and 5 kilometres from east to west. In 1656, the Resurrection Monastery for men was founded on a hill named Zion. Two years later, construction began on its main church, modelled after the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Patriarch Nikon himself designed the project. He used a cypress-wood model of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, engravings based on drawings by Padre Bernardino Amico, and the handwritten Proskynetarion of Hieromonk Arseny Sukhanov, which contained descriptions and measurements of the shrine. It was planned to create 365 side chapels, one for each day of the year. The next stage of construction began in 1679. It took place under different historical circumstances and did not fully follow the original concept. By the end of the 18th century, the holy places of the Istra Palestine had been concentrated within the monastery walls and its immediate surroundings, while the names of the cathedral’s side churches reflected not the annual but the weekly cycle of worship. By the 19th century, the church contained 29 side chapels. During the Great Patriotic War, German troops retreating from Istra blew up the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, as well as the upper tiers of the gate church and the towers of the monastery walls. The unique architectural ensemble, reduced to ruins, was restored only by the end of the 20th century. Continuing the theme of “Russian Palestine” as the construction of a toponymic icon of the “Heavenly City”, it is also worth mentioning the sketes of the Trinity Lavra of St Sergius, Bethany and Gethsemane; the Golgotha-Crucifixion Skete of Solovki; and the grounds of Valaam Monastery, which from the beginning of the 20th century were transformed into a “New Jerusalem”. St Seraphim of Sarov gave various parts of the Sarov forest surrounding him Gospel names: Nazareth, Bethlehem, Gethsemane, Golgotha, the Mount of Olives and others. In the saint’s own words, this helped create “a more vivid image of the earthly life of the Saviour”. #info #meta #nationalism #Christianity12,50%
