What if we all start asking for a copy of all the personal data each company have saved on you?? After all this is your personal information you own. You did not give consent to places like Coles holding images of you for 90 days as it’s not written on any notice as you walk in right? Data centres are just the same. Here’s a letter and more info: In Australia, you generally have the right to ask an organisation for access to the personal information it holds about you under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), provided the organisation is subject to that Act. If Coles (or another company) has collected personal information about you, you can request access to it. Depending on what they have, this could include: * CCTV footage or still images in which you are identifiable. * Transaction history linked to your Flybuys account or payment method. * Information collected through their app or website. * Customer service records. * Internal notes or records about interactions with you (subject to some exceptions). CCTV footage If the CCTV footage clearly identifies you, it may be considered your personal information under Australian privacy law. However, there are practical limitations: * If the footage also contains other people, the company may blur or redact others, or refuse access if doing so would unreasonably affect other people’s privacy. * If the footage has already been deleted under the company’s retention policy (for example, after 90 days), they won’t be able to provide it. * If you think you’ll want the footage, it’s best to request it as soon as possible before it is routinely overwritten.
