Therefore, avoid the causes of destruction, and increase in the causes of salvation, expiation, and elevation in ranks. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘There are three things that bring destruction, three things that bring salvation, three things that serve as expiations, and three things that raise one in ranks. As for the things that bring destruction: a greed that is obeyed, a desire that is followed, and a person’s admiration of himself. As for the things that bring salvation: justice in anger and pleasure, moderation in poverty and wealth, and fearing Allah, the Most High, in secret and in public. As for the things that serve as expiations: waiting for one prayer after another prayer, performing ablution thoroughly during times of cold, and walking with one’s feet to the congregational prayers.
