I checked SermonAudio and there aren't many sermons in the Lessons from the Life of Jason vein. Is it because paying the city authorities to go away isn't how we think the story should end? @Presbyterianism

Am I called to pastoral ministry? If you have to ask, you're probably not. I'm not and most aren't. The calling to secular work is as valuable as the clergy. Ministers today face a hard job. Most do it badly or are unqualified. People who train ministers are almost always inadequate, if not negligent. The qualifications are high, parishioner demands are mercurial and pay isn't competitive. Pastors must be leaders, diplomats and learned. Moreover, they represent Christ to a mixed multitude in Word and Sacraments. Yet while you may not be called, somebody is. There are churches to be planted and souls to be gathered. The people around us, even those in religious subcultures, are a vast, underserved mission field. And if you are a devoted believer with a career and concern for God's people, ruling eldership is an option. If you are the sort of man who is passionate about the true faith - enough for oldheads to call you cage stage — look in that direction. Spiritual warfare needs men. @Presbyterianism

Five years ago this mouth, there was all this media attention claiming thousands of Bible-believing Christians were under threat in Afghanistan. Big fundraising was done for them. So what happened to these people and where did they go? 🤷‍♂️ @Presbyterianism

He's right. Attacks on religious politics are done against the right and only the right. Church leaders, even so-called conservatives, only have a voice in the public square to the extent they support the existing power structure. @Presbyterianism

Paul "I'm a Christian and you're not" Washer is being a bit mystical here. The knowledge of Christ he's talking about is not Christology. It is experimental knowledge, deep emotional feelings. So why does he think it a carnal desire that megachurches and others promote deep emotional feelings? Now, Washer believes some parts of the Calvinistic system and that's great. And he's right that gospel preaching is uncommon. But I can't help but see him as an elitist Baptist putting himself on a pedestal above other Baptists. Further, whenever the word "radical" comes up in terms of discipleship, be wary. Sanctification is not so much radical as it is progressive. We have to follow in the ordinary areas of life and words like "radical" don't fit. (We can also have fun discussions of how the word "carnal" is abused as well.) @Presbyterianism

Ben Sasse is dying of horrible cancer. Yet he remains the R2K disappointment he always has been. Continuing his farewell media tour, Ben gave a Fox News interview. He quoted Tim Keller, worried about the CCP, and complained about education (which, as head of University of Florida, he did nothing about). Ben said we need to fight the Chinese with what Fox described as free trade, the rule of law, transparency and acknowledgment of human rights. Except: -Free trade was what made China a threat. -The rule of law and transparency are a fantasy in Western democracies. -Modern notions of human rights gave us abortion pills, internet censorship and grooming gangs. Worse, in R2K, these platitudes substitute for natural law. In the West, our real problem has abandoned God and, by extension, ourselves. Rights and the rule of law are fair topics, yet must be rethought on that basis. You would think someone staring at eternity would start questioning. @Presbyterianism
