Furthermore: God brought all the animals of the earth and all the birds of heaven to Adam, so that he might see them and name them. What is the meaning of this naming? This naming with a name corresponding to their nature seems to us to express not only Adam’s dominion over them, but, in view of similar biblical occurrences, to indicate that they had immediately beforehand come into existence, and that only now were they beginning to fulfill the purposes corresponding to their nature. What purpose would this naming have, if they had already existed for thousands of years previously (in their ancestors) and had fulfilled the purposes corresponding to their nature? This view of ours concerning the significance of the naming may be further confirmed by the circumstance that what happened with the animals also occurred with the first woman. God brought the woman to Adam, and Adam first called her Virago, later, after the Fall, Heva, i.e. mater omnium viventium (“mother of all living”). But before Eve received her name, she was certainly not yet actually mater; only after the naming did she become this and fulfill the purpose assigned to her by the Creator. Likewise, in the naming of the holy Apostle Simon as Peter, we see that the Apostle only entered into this calling after being given the name which expressed his office. - Rev. Fr. Alois Trissl, Das biblische Sechstagewerk vom Standpunkte der katholischen Exegese und vom Standpunkte der Naturwissenschaften (Regensburg, 1892), pp. 17-18.

Very sad day for me today, even my whole family. Father Burfitt is leaving on Monday to become the prior in Kansas. This was the last Mass I was able to attend with him today It's kind of bittersweet because, 6 years ago this summer I first met him during covid when all the churches were shut down and yet, the small Mission down in San Diego was kept open by him though we had to attend Mass outside the buildings on the Sheraton grounds After 12 years of insistence by my brother's to convert to Catholicism, and a short one and a half year detour into orthodox liturgy, I began attendance and catechism in 2020. About a year later I was baptized by Father Burffitt On today's Feast of the Assumption of our Blessed Virgin Mary, we attended Mass in the same place in which we first met him, where we ended up saying goodbye before he leaves Our whole family cried with him as we told him he'll always be our spiritual Father, hugged him & bid him farewell Hail Father Burfitt & the Holy Roman Catholic Church ⚡⚡
Happy Feast of the Assumption 💙

Following the theme of harmony with God’s Will, I’m posting Thomas Kempen’s De Imitatione Christi, or “The Imitation Of Christ.” I could speak much about this book but it is best that I simply relay an excerpt to you, one which is appropriate for our current situation. “If we strove like valiant men to stand up in the battle, doubtless we should see Our Lord help us from Heaven. For He is ready to help them that fight and trust in His grace: who furnishes us with occasions of combat that we may overcome.” The versions I’m posting are the original Latin, by Thomas, the French version from Jerome De Gonnelieu, who added extra reflections and prayers, and the English version by Richard Challoner, who translated both the original and the added prayers and reflections by Jerome. Jerome’s reflections and prayers, I must say, are so edifying as to warrant their own book, so I’m quite thankful to have found Challoner’s translation

Your weekend read is here! “The immanent common good of political society must, accordingly, contain in a perfect manner all these classes of goods: exterior goods (wealth, abundance, and sufficiency of useful goods), interior goods of the body (health, robustness: sufficiency and abundance of means for the perfect development and preservation of the race, with its accompanying bodily well-being — sufficiency of delightful goods), and interior goods of the soul (sufficiency and abundance of resources for the perfect development of the faculties and habits of the soul: arts, sciences, culture, virtue — sufficiency of honorable goods).” — Fr. Santiago Ramírez Only at The Journal of American Reform.
