Luddites are foaming about LLMs and image generation like it’s the atom bomb. Those things are just search engines with extra steps. You’ve been using similar technology for years. In a decade we’ll look at them like how we look at calculators now. The next atom bomb that has the potential to actually destroy humanity is gene editing. And nobody cares about it. Nostradaveus told youse AI was coming back in the 10’s and mfers thought it was kooky. Listen to what I’m saying about gene editing. It is going to make fundamental assumptions about the human experience meaningless. Things like traditions around procreation, natural gestation and relationship with our own mortality. Clutch pearls about calculators if you want. But your species is currently being rewritten. You will see designer babies in your lifetime. In the next 5-10 years they will be playing Super Bowl ads for services that can screen for spina bifida, Down syndrome and other morbidities. It’ll sound good at first. It’ll look like an actual miracle. Then will come the clones and polymer womb sacs. Then they’ll edit off your PPs and VJs because human sex will be obsolete. Nostradaveus hath spake. Disregard at your own peril.

I had like 5 more posts but we’re gonna cut it off here. The absolute worst thing Nolan does is make the most harrowing and heartbreaking moment in the entire Batman series meaningless. In Knightfall, Bane breaks Batman’s spine leaving him paralyzed. This is the end of Batman. Bruce Wayne spends the rest of his days in a wheelchair. But with the help of his allies in the Bat family, he still acts as the leader from a command center in the Bat Cave. This is one of the things that separates Batman from other capeshit. He has an end. His story goes on after his death. And he leaves a legacy in his children and his students. That rules. But Nolan turns this tragedy into a forgettable WWF move that means nothing. And even if it did, the aftermath would hollow because he cut out those who pick up the torch. There’s way more. But these are my gripes as a trve enjoyer of The Batman. Nolan purposely ruins everything awesome about the character because he thinks he’s smart. Instead he made a film trilogy where the characters and setting could be switched out with any generic replacements and it wouldn’t matter a whole lot. Nolan sucks.

Heath Ledger Joker is the worst Joker. This isn’t just me being a grognard. The Nolan Joker is an objective downgrade from the real Joker. Nolan’s Joker is an ideologically driven political terrorist who doesn’t have a coherent argument outside of infantile libertine resent. He sucks. Cringe lines that are supposed to be profound and make drooler normoids feel smart. This was clearly a rejection of the canon Joker and an attempt to make the character more “mature”. The simplicity of canon Joker is far more interesting. He’s just a sadistic maniac that carries out increasingly elaborate and cruel pranks for his own amusement. He’s obsessed with Batman and constantly tries to force him into abandoning his honor code. In Joker’s twisted mind, they’re friends. He’s not political, ideological, he doesn’t have any commentary about society. He does wacky evil shit because he thinks it’s funny. That’s way cooler.

Nolan completely cut the Bat family from the story. Outrageous. The various apprenticeships of Robin, Red Hood, Nightwing, romances with Batgirl, tragedy of Oracle. All of these characters have deeply meaningful plots and are crucial to helping Bruce Wayne as Gotham City descends into chaos. Nolan cut them completely because he “thought it was stupid”.

I almost barfed when I saw his Batmobile. wtf is that? Ugly utilitarian modern military tech. Bruce Wayne is a man of discerning taste. His entire arsenal is part of his aesthetic. The Batmobile isn’t about whether or not it realistically functions. Nolan clearly doesn’t understand symbolism or aesthetics. The Batmobile is a symbol. It’s part Rolls Royce, part classic muscle car and a character in itself. It’s sexy, virile and symbol of dark justice. Cars have aesthetic principles that make them beautiful. They are chariots. Battleships. The Batmobile is designed to spread terror. This is Bruce Wayne’s motivation in his visual expression. To instill fear and paranoia in his enemies. To look over their shoulders because The Batman could be lurking.
