After the death by apparent suicide of Jason Arday a number of the key figures and organisations behind pushing him have issued their 'condolences'. Prof Simon Baron-Cohen said he spoke to Arday the morning of his death, and said the academic had felt unable to leave the house. "He has experienced what he described as a campaign against him, for the last three years." In a statement issued by his publisher Simon & Schuster UK, Arday's family said they were "in shock to have lost this amazing father, partner, brother, uncle and son". The New York based Publisher handling all the PR for the family is owned by Private Equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.

Sadiq Khan is set to give the go ahead to live facial recognition and Flock Cameras in major London streets. He is said to be supportive of the scheme which he says will assist the police in their fight against crime.

An Eritrean man (no public images of the rapist made available) raped a male pensioner outside a church while traffic and pedestrians passed nearby unaware. Bruke Desalagne, 33, dragged an elderly man behind a hoarding at St John’s Church in Harrow, north London, in an attempt to conceal his actions. But a witness saw some of the 20-minute assault from her window and phoned the police. A jury at Harrow Crown Court found Desalagne guilty of rape after viewing CCTV of the prolonged attack, which also showed cars and a double-decker London bus passing close to the scene. He will be sentenced in the autumn. The assault – which happened on a grass verge outside the church at around midnight on July 23 last year – was also partially captured by a witness on her phone, and she later handed this to police. Desalagne, who used an interpreter throughout proceedings, initially said he had been trying to help his inebriated victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

A trainee police Constable, Mohammad Hassan, has been charged with the rape and kidnap of a woman. Greater Manchester Police said a 999 call was received at about 22:20 BST on Saturday during which a woman could be heard in a vehicle in the Manchester area. It said responding officers arrested off-duty trainee constable after a pursuit which ended on the M62 in West Yorkshire. The 23-year-old, who has been suspended by the force, has been charged with rape, kidnap, strangulation, sexual assault, theft of a mobile phone and dangerous driving and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court later. A force spokesperson said a woman was "safeguarded at the scene and continues to be supported by specialist officers and support services".
