Friends! We come with a sad update. On May 14th the court has chosen to REJECT Ben's appeal. He was informed of the decision only earlier today. This outcome was always likely, but we chose to hope for the best and we will continue to do so. So, what now? Ben is still eligible for parole from April of next year, however it may take months before an actual hearing takes place, and the process can once again be intentionally dragged out before a rejection is handed down. Until then it is another year that Ben is ripped away from his family, more missed birthdays and holidays that they could've spent together. The entire FBR staff share their pain and wish them to stay resolute in the face of persisting injustice. We will keep carrying on and provide you with updates on Ben's well being and struggle, as well as with news on other people who similarly find themselves wronged by the powers that be. Friends! We come with a minor update. As things stand there really isn't much to report on as we are still waiting on news regarding Ben's appeal. What we can say for now is that it had been put before a judge on March 10th and is now pending review, whereupon it will be decided if his appeal will even be considered. The review should take a total of 4 to 6 weeks. However, we would like to highlight something else for all of you, and that is the hardships Ben's family have to deal with in his absence from their lives. It is not something we highlighted in the past, but Ben's daughter, Victoria, has a number of health issues that she is constantly battling. Right now she is dealing with an ear infection, and in the past has had trouble putting on weight and is showing less growth than one may expect at her age. More recently she was diagnosed with a genetic condition, and the news had been troubling for both Ben and Alexandra, as well us all of us on the FBR Team. As we write this Victoria is currently under observation in the hospital for a few weeks. One can imagine only so much of how taxing all of this has to be and we have to confess our admiration for Alexandra's perseverance and dedication to her family in light of all the adversity and hardships that they face. We are sure that Ben is besides himself in the inability to be there for them at this time. Which is why his appeal means so much, so that Victoria can have both her parents there for her, and so that Ben can finally provide the support his family needs.
