For us, self-defense is of fundamental importance Dinya Ronahî from Shengal Women's Unit (YJŞ) about the role of YPJ for the establishment of YJŞ, the current situation in Shengal and the meaning of self-defense. https://ypj-info.org/inside-the-ypj/interview-yjs/
The braids of the fighting woman are not only a symbol of resilience and the free will of women, but a reminder that justice, peace and freedom are only achieved through struggle and women's organisation.
Statement regarding the ongoing discussions Within the framework of the 29 January 2026 Agreement, our negotiations, as the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), with Damascus are continuing. In April, we held a meeting with Minister of Defense Murhaf Abu Qasra, during which we also submitted a written draft outlining our vision and proposals. To this day, we have not been informed of any official proposal or decision by the authorities in Damascus. There are proposals for the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) to join the Ministry of Interior as an independent force dedicated to combating terrorism. However, no final decision has yet been reached on this matter. In the coming days, meetings will be held between us and officials in Damascus to discuss this issue. Our struggle and activities will continue until the legacy of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) is placed under legal protection and guarantee. Statement of the General Command of YPJ "It must be clearly understood that the threats directed against Shengal are not merely attacks on a particular geographical area; they are a direct assault on the political and social existence and authentic identity of the Kurdish people as a whole. The only genuine guarantee for protecting our Yazidi community lies in strengthening the system of democratic self-administration and securing official recognition of their political and cultural rights. Protecting Shengal’s resistance and its free will means safeguarding the common essence and future of all free peoples." To read the full statement: https://ypjrojava.net/en/?p=23823
We remember the genocide and the historic resistance.against this. This must not happen again. Therefore: Self-defense is a natural right!
In Remembrance of the 12th anniversary of the genocide in Shengal On August 3, 2014, ISIS attacked the region of Shengal and carried out a massacre. The forces of YPJ, YPG, and the guerrillas from the Free Mountains of Kurdistan, HPG, stood up to ISIS and saved thousands of lives. In order to answer these attacks the Self-defense Units of Shengal were formed and a counterattack was launched, liberating the region from ISIS. Then, as now, the YPJ was a vital force that stood up against the brutality of ISIS. Even today, the YPJ continues to play an important role in rescuing women held captive by ISIS. We are all YPJ! Self-defense is a natural right!
"We remember with profound gratitude and love the revolutionaries, fighters, and commanders who came to the aid of our people, as well as the members of YJA Star, HPG, YPG, and YPJ who gave their lives on our land. On the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the August 3, 2014, genocide in Shengal (Sinjar), the The Yazidi Women’s Units (YJŞ) Headquarters Command issued a statement. Yesterday the first Wheat Festival took place in Qamishlo. Wheat is part of the culture and life and has a deep-rooted tradition throughout Syria. And at a festival dedicated to the culture of life and women, YPJ naturally was part of it. YPJ, a life-giving force deeply intertwined with society.

Statement of Kongra Star Today, Kongra Star issued a statement condemning the attacks and divisions targeting the Kurdish people and women. Kobane - a story of resistance Kobane, a small town in northern Syria on the border with Bakur (Northern Kurdistan, Turkey), has made history. The revolution of 19 July 2012 began in Kobane. And it was 2015 in Kobane that ISIS was defeated for the first time. With this video, we commemorate all those who lost their lives in the struggle for humanity and dignity, and pay tribute to 14 years of revolution. Even though the current Syrian government tries to deny this history by changing the name of Kobane into Ayn al-Arab, this history of Kobane cannot be denied and erased.
Today marks the 14th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution - a women's revolution, a people's revolution. A spark of hope and a flame of resistance in times of nationalism and war. A people building up their own institutions and defining their own way of a more free life. This spark glims until today and we congratulate all peoples, women and commemorate the martyrs, who payved the way so that we, the ones still struggling, have something to hold on and fight for.
The July 19 Revolution: A Global Model "The Rojava Revolution, which began on 19 July 2012, was presented to the world as a vision and conviction in free life. During the years that became known as the Spring of Peoples, authoritarian regimes responded to every demand for rights and freedom with repression and violence, seeking to exploit those movements for their own interests. In Rojava, however, the peoples of the region made a choice that changed their destiny." To read the full declaration: https://ypjrojava.net/en/?p=23750
14th Anniversary of the Rojava Revolution Kurdistan Koçer, a member of the YPJ Military Council, sends her greetings on the occasion of the anniversary of the Rojava Revolution, that spread like a wave beginning on July 19, 2012. Kurdistan Koçer has been at the forefront of the revolution from the very beginning and offers a glimpse into its early days—both the difficulties and the unforgettable moments of joy.
