Hoping the paper would be manageable. Fast forward to 2026. Twenty years have passed. Yet one thing hasn't changed. I'm still studying CA Inter Audit. The difference is... In 2006, I studied Audit to clear the exam. Today, I study Audit to understand how ICAI asks questions. Every RTP. Every MTP. Every Suggested Answer. Every Study Material amendment. Every syllabus update. Every pattern change. Because every year, ICAI reveals something new. The syllabus evolves. The study material evolves. Questions evolve. Presentation expectations evolve. Students evolve. When I read a topic today, I don't just see a concept. I immediately think: • Has ICAI tested this before? • How has this question evolved over the years? • Which mistakes do students repeatedly make? • Which words actually fetch marks? • What question could come from this concept? Twenty years of studying the same subject has taught me one important lesson. Experience doesn't replace preparation. It compounds it. Knowledge helps students understand Audit. The Crab That Saved Its Life Through Professional Skepticism. A Jataka Tale. An Audit Lesson. An old crane had become too weak to catch fish. So it came up with a plan. It told the fish, "This pond will soon dry up. I know a beautiful lake nearby. I'll carry each of you there safely." Frightened by the thought of dying, the fish trusted the crane. One by one, they climbed onto its back. But the crane wasn't taking them to another lake. It was flying them to a nearby rock... ...where it ate them. Days later, a crab asked the crane to carry it too. The crane agreed. As they flew over the rock, the crab noticed something unusual. A pile of fish bones. The promise and the evidence didn't match. The crab didn't ignore the contradiction. It immediately tightened its claws around the crane's neck, escaped the deception, and returned safely to warn the others. 🔍 Audit Perspective Every fish accepted the explanation. The crab looked for evidence. That is the essence of Professional Skepticism. SA 200 requires auditors to maintain a questioning mind and critically assess audit evidence. Management may provide explanations. Representations may sound convincing. But auditors don't conclude based on words alone. They seek sufficient appropriate audit evidence. Because explanations can be fabricated. Evidence is much harder to fake. The fish trusted. The crab verified. That one difference... saved its life.
