Event: Effective altruism & religion 📍 Where: University of Bern (Room 104, Hautpgebäude) ⏰ When: 23 April, 18:30 – 20:30 In this event Dr Dominic Roser will present on the intersection of effective altruism (EA) and religion, touching on questions such as "What's the real - and surprisingly effective altruist - message of the parable of the Good Samaritan?" and "Is EA a religion itself - and if yes, is this a problem?" Dominic is author of the recently published book "All The Lives You Can Change: Effective Altruism for Christians", a senior lecturer in political philosophy and applied ethics at the University of Fribourg, and a board member of 'Christians for Impact'. We’ve extended the application deadline for our Rebel Clown Workshop until 1 April. At a time of imperial wars, tightening borders, violent migration regimes, and democracies being eroded by nationalist and authoritarian politics – with public discourse shaped by fear and exclusion – we believe it is urgent to create spaces that question the status quo. For ten days we work with political clowning, bouffon, and interventions in public space. Working from the inside out, we start from embodied practice and transform these impulses into collective expression and political action. Through humor, absurdity and imagination, we explore ways to disrupt dominant narratives. This workshop in the tradition of CIRCA (Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army) is for people with (first) experience in (rebel) clowning or related practices (physical theater, performance, dance,…). Workshop: Digitale Selbstverteidigung in Zeiten von Repression Keine Vorkenntnisse nötig – alle sind willkommen! :) Vor einem Monat fand in der Anstadt eine grosse Polizeirazzia statt. Solche Ereignisse machen deutlich, wie schnell unsere digitalen Geräte, Daten und Kommunikationswege in die Hände von Repressionsorganen geraten können. Auf unterhaltsame und zugängliche Art kannst du im Workshop der Geschichte von Ivona, einer Aktivistin von Kroatien, folgen die genau durch diesen Prozess geht. Dabei lernst du viele nützliche digitale Werkzeuge kennen, die nicht nur deine digitale Sicherheit erhöhen, sondern auch deine Privatsphäre (weniger Google, mehr anarchistische Tech-Kollektive und Open Source Software) und dein digitales Wohlbefinden (weniger SPAM und mühsame Pop-up Werbung, mehr Selbstbestimmung und Kontrolle). Auch lernst du, das es nicht nur um deine persönlichen Daten geht, sondern, wie so oft in der globalisierten Welt, alles kompliziert verflochten ist. Um ein Beispiel zu nennen: Die meisten von uns haben Accounts bei grossen Tech Firmen die über Werbung und den Verkauf unserer Daten viel Geld durch uns erwirtschaften. Viele dieser Firmen kooperieren mit dem IDF in Israel, indem sie ihnen Serverinfrastruktur zur Verfügung stellen und sind so im Genozid in Palestina involviert. So lernst du wie es möglich ist weniger Geld für diese Firmen zu generieren oder sie ganz zu boykottieren. Im zweiten Teil des Workshops hast du die Möglichkeit in Form eines kooperativen Spieles, in dem wir uns gegenseitig unterstützen, gelerntes konkret auf deinem Handy anzuwenden. Der Workshop findet am Donnerstag Abend 10.07 im vakuum in der Anstadt statt. 18:00: Gemeinsames Abendessem 18:30 Anfang des Workshops im Vakuum Ca. 20:30: Praktische Teil mit open end. Die Einladung kann gerne an Freund*innen weitergeleitet werden.
