Red Balwn Coch nursery to close with HMO plans submitted for the site We are saddened by the news that Red Balwn Coch, the bilingual nursery at the bottom of Circle Way East will be closing at the end of next week. After helping raise hundreds of children over the years, this great facility will be closing its doors for the final time. Take down the sign :( I am still SO upset about this. I took the geese up to the top of the grassed hill; I am still feeding them all. I went early this morning, so there weren’t many people there who would have told me off for feeding them; I was still expecting someone to tell me off, though. Walking around the Aberdare Park pond this evening, I was met with a sad sight: loads of little birds huddled on the grass at the side of the path, really vulnerable to any type of attack. The nest on the fountain in the pond with little birds in it is still there, but it's now empty. I hope the Councillors who decided to fence off the pond are proud of themselves. The little island in the centre of the lake has been a safe haven for the wild birds in the park, NOT JUST THE CANADA GEESE, but also for the other wild birds as well. As far as we know, no wildlife impact survey was done, and the public was not consulted, as far as we are aware. Shame on you, RCT! Credit: Julieann

I am writing as a concerned citizen regarding Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s recent public statement on the new management strategy for the Canada Geese at Aberdare Park. The Council announced measures to reduce the goose population, such as fencing around the lake island, changes to planting, signage, increased patrols, fountain operations, and grass replacement or coating. The statement also acknowledged that the birds breed and nest on the island. I urge you to intervene promptly and request that the Council provide the lawful and evidential basis for this program before any further work proceeds. Specifically, please ask officers to present: the formal decision record approving the strategy; the delegated authority or committee approval relied upon; ecological and wildlife surveys; advice, licences, or correspondence from Natural Resources Wales; legal advice ensuring compliance with wildlife laws; the baseline evidence for claims of damage, fouling, and bird injuries; the total budget and financial assessments like Section 151 or Best Value; any public consultation or community impact evaluations; and confirmation that no nests, eggs, birds, breeding sites, or habitats will be disturbed without all legal and ecological safeguards. This matter extends beyond a simple complaint about geese. The Council is modifying public land, using public funds, and interfering with an area designated for breeding and nesting. Such actions require a clear decision record, lawful authority, ecological evidence, financial approval, and public accountability. 🚘 Relief Road/Llanrumney 3rd Exit Information 🚘 Posting across multiple groups to raise awareness. I’m concerned about the live planning application for a data centre and the proposed removal of the park-and-ride. Judging by other posts and comments, I don’t think I’m alone. From reading posts by local residents and councillors, I was under the impression that a relief road would be delivered if the development went ahead. Wanting to understand the details, I tried engaging with a local councillor via the Llanrumney Labour Facebook page, but I wasn't able to get any clarification. As a result, I submitted several Freedom of Information requests to Cardiff Council. I'm still waiting for some responses, and some information has been refused. However, one response I have received relates to vehicle access and includes the following wording: "Vehicular use of the bridge shall be restricted to public transport only between the hours of 07:00 and 10:00 and 15:00 and 19:00." Unless I'm misunderstanding this, that appears to mean private cars would not be permitted to use the bridge during the busiest commuting periods of the day. If that's the correct interpretation, I think it's important that residents are aware of what is actually being proposed. Many people may assume the road would provide general traffic relief during peak hours, whereas this wording suggests otherwise. If anyone has information that clarifies or contradicts this interpretation, I'd genuinely welcome it. I've attached screenshots of the relevant FOI response. In the interests of transparency, I also believe Cardiff Council should make the full response publicly available so everyone can read it for themselves. The reference number is FOI25799.
