Try to form your own conditional sentences from what we have learnt today, 1st conditional If we leave now, __. So here the subject wished he had studied in the past so that he could have passed the exam today. 3⃣ The third conditional is used to imagine a different past. We imagine a change in a past situation and the different result of that change. 📚 If I had studied, I would have passed the exam.

The structure used in second conditional sentences are If + Past simple, would + infinitive verb Let’s look at a few other examples of second conditional sentences, 🌸 If we had a garden, we could have a cat. 💸 If I won a lot of money, I'd buy a big house in the country. 👍 I wouldn't worry if I were you.

So what this sentence is saying is that, if I was a person who generally always studied, I would pass the exam. This sounds like it didn’t really happen to the subject and thus he is making this statement.

2⃣ So then what are second conditional sentences? They are used to imagine present or future situations that are impossible or unlikely in reality. 📚 If I studied, I would pass the exam.

Below are some more examples, ☁ If it doesn't rain tomorrow, we'll go to the beach. ⚽ Arsenal will be top of the league if they win. 💼 When I finish work, I'll call you.

So what the sentence is saying is that if I study now(which is the condition) I will pass the exam in the future(result). It uses the following structure: if/when + simple present, will + infinitive verb
